Future career books - wondering about something...

By Varsovian, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

The next career book coming up for Edge of the Empire is about Technicians. When it comes to Age of Rebellion, what we got so far are career books for Aces and Diplomats, with Commanders coming up.

Now... AOR has a Technician career, too. So, is there going to be an AOR career book for Technicians? Wouldn't it be redundant with the EOE Technician book already existing..?

It's actually Engineer. Engineer shares 1 spec (Mechanic) with Technician, but that's it. The other two are Saboteur, a stealthy Demolitionist, and Scientist, with more in common with Scholar than anything else. I can't say which direction Engineer will go (will probably copy/paste the creation rules, maybe the explosives rules from Dangerous Covenants, but maybe not), but I have a feeling they will diverge more when the career book comes.

Plus, following the pattern of Career books, it will introduce 3 new species (although possibly repeating one) and new Specializations. The signature abilities will also probably be new. There certainly is a chance of overlap with Technicians and Engineers, but so far, each book has provided plenty of new material.

I have a good feeling one of the Engineer specs will be centered on vehicle/starship design. The three new specs coming out in the technician book don't seem to have anything to do with this area. As for copying over item creation and explosive rules, that seems like a reasonable thing.

I wouldn't be too worried about overlap. There are several careers overall that overalp in themes but they've done a good job of keeping things unique. I imagine the Engineer will focus more on solider and combat related stuff while the Technician is focused on things you do in the fringes.

Definitely feels that way, hopefully with some crossover with the Rigger Spec. We also have the Armourer from FaD, so i wonder if we will see a career focused on Weapons creation, similar to Gadgeteer but more like Q and less MacGyver.

Crossover with Rigger is something I was hoping for, maybe even another rank of Signature Vehicle, for some truly sweet Silhouette 6 rides for a command crew party. A Q inspired weapon designer would be pretty interesting. I just hope the synergy with Gadgeteer, Outlaw Tech, the upcoming Modder, Armorer, Gunner and whatever comes out in LbE is fun and interesting instead of samey or easy path to "winning." So far I don't dislike any of the specs or their combos, a couple come close to silliness, but my group has accommodated.

I'm hoping for full ship and vehicle creation rules.

Zero worry about overlap or redundancy. It'll be 100 pages of awesome, you wait and see.

I'm guessing that Engineer will have some sort of Starship Construction spec, an "Army Corps of Engineers" combat spec could be cool, Not sure what else they would do.
