Well, unfortunately specialist games wont be in my safe hands....

By Gadge, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Gutted to find out today that after getting shortlisted from hundreds of applicants i got to '2nd place' when looking for the new GW specialist games writer.

They did say they wished they had the budget for two writers but thats no use to me is it :)

My only conciliation is the job went to a chap who currently works as a rules writer for main studio so at least I feel i must have submitted some pretty **** good writing tasks and interviewed well.

Whether the 'existing team' writing the new stuff is a good or bad thing i imagine will be contested im sure.

All i can say is the dept manager is a good bloke and i think it will go forwards well with him at the helm.

Still a bit hacked off it wasnt me but hey ho... i wasnt actually sure i even wanted to go back to GW anyway...

Disappointed to be sure but hey, never say never right?

Yeah i mean there is a possibility of them sending some freelance work my way as apparently they were incredibly impressed with me.

But you know i love the job i do at the moment and it gives me a lot of freedom so its not the end of the world.

On the plus side i no longer have to go through every post on here and edit any reference to me slagging GW off or spilling the beans :)

also, you won't recieve (that m)any hate/rage-quit-mails once they re-release epic only to let it slowly die anew..

yeah, that sounds bitter, I know. but I can't see any other reason than keeping fingers on "their IP" for that rerelease. so, once it's released, it'll get the treatment Lotr gets. or inquisitor gets. or the last epic got. or that before it. .. ;)

-would be happy to be proven wrong.. but that seems unlikely in this case- ;)

Sorry to hear that mate.

Not getting a job you really want is a bummer. Just remember to not burn bridges. It is a small world.

Oh i think im all good with GW still. I've still got loads of friends there. Its just a bit dissapointing really more so to be so very close to getting it.

On the plus side i no longer have to go through every post on here and edit any reference to me slagging GW off or spilling the beans :)

I can still diss 'em right? ;) I mean seriously, they are asking for it: Why is there an entrie faction of naked dwarfs? :D

To bad you didn't get it, I asume you'd have done a bang up job.

Sadly I think the bean counters will still Jack up the prices to unreasonable levels.

Also it's recently been confirmed GW will not support a specialist game post release that will fall to forgeworld, so the game will be expensive all around.

At a time when they need to slash prices so they can sell in bulk they continue to pretend they are Apple.

Specialist Games ARE forgeworld now.

Its an entire new department with its own writers and sculptors purely to support specialist games.

Thats how it was explained to me at the inteviews.

Its not a case of the main studio trot out a new version of necomunda, it gets a big box main studio release then gets sidelined.

FW will be in control of it from the off.

Given how good FW stuff has been recently i cant see that being a bad thing.

It would of course have been much better had i been writing it but hey ho :)

hmm.. I remember the Forgeworld "tau" stuff for epic-armageddon.. that went "not so well".

really nice minis, but after a few weeks they where out of stock.. then never into stock again, and I looked for months/years.

not too hot on those, but still.. FW-support is only marginially better than nothing; the guys try their best, but with a speed...

it's okay for unrelated-to-games collectors stuff, but for actual games you don't want to wait YEARS for a model in the book.. or a book for the model.

again, I'd like to be proven wrong. I'd like epic to be great again and with support.. but "once burned, twice shy"; and GW have burned me (as well as many, many others) over and over again. ;)

FW for a long time have had a policy of retiring the 10 per cent of their line that sells the least to make room for 10 per cent new stuff in the coming year.

Odds are Tau epic was in that 10 per cent.

Otherwise they'd just never be able to keep everything in production.

The issue is GW won't give them access to their plastic production after the initial release so any new teams for blood bowl would be resin.

Given that blood bowls carried on just fine for a decade without GW and already has dozens of companies making teams for it the high prices from forgeworld make it a non starter.

I loved gothic at the time but now there are much better games out there like Armada and the halo fleet battles, dzc is releasing a fleet system soon as well.

I loved mordheim but there are games already out there like frostgrave.

Nothing will tempt vets back at this point they've been exposed to better cheaper games for too long and still remember GW shanking them in the back.

You can't bring specialist games back at a premium price dreadfleet and the second release of space hulk showed this, just having the GW logo on no longer makes things sell.

We'll see. Having been shown the new plans at the interview i think it is going to be very cool tbh.

I can't say anymore, im on a sort of unnoficial non disclosure

Like i *could* say more but then i'm not going to get any freelance work off em :)
