Turtle squadron

By Karhedron, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Just an idea I was playing about with, the idea of this list is to outlast opponents by taking ships that focus on survivability. Firepower and manoeuvrability are modest but with 2 turrets and potentially free target locks for Tarn, it should put out enough damage to whittle down fragile arc-dodgers.

49 points. Chewie in the Falcon with C-3PO, Predator and Millenium Falcon

25 Points Tarn Mison with R7 and Integrated Astromech

26 Points. Gold squadron Y-wing with Ion Cannon and R5-P9

100 points total

Nothing held back for initiative bidding but with a top PS of 5 I don't see much point.

I feel this list will succumb to the same problem that a lot of defensive/control lists go down to in today's environment.

My own list in casual (standard 37 poe, 28 Jake, and then an ion turret y-wing) suffered the same thing. It was built to outlast the other squad, and against my other competitors on casual nights, it did extremely well.... in 2.5 hour grind matches. However, if I ran this in a store champs with timed rounds, the MOV wouldn't be there. You'd probably win a lot of games 26-38. But if your opponent realizes this and concentrates fire on, say, the Falcon... it may be difficult for you to kill off enough of their squad to overcome in points.

Myself, I'm planning to fly triple Interceptors Soontir/Turr/Carnor, all with AT, SD, and PTL (VI on Turr). If I'm looking at your list from across the table... I'm looking at not a lot of maneuverability and only two real damage dealers. A balloon of 50 points that has a max of 2 evades a shot but probably more like 2 on the first and 1 on any subsequent shots, and that's if I can't get Carnor close to it. I'm guessing dive Carnor into Range 1 of Chewie and eat the Falcon alive while straight ignoring the other two.

That's just my squadron though. Against other squadrons, your list will do much better. Like say, against the new resurgence in TIE swarms, I feel your list will crush that, even if you may not get them all.

Agreed but with contention, some of the new TIE pilots can deal a considerable amount of damage to a YT-1300. Chewie does benefit from not having to worry about taking critical hits from Omega Ace but Wampa wont even care about his shields... Only point I'm trying to make is TIE swarms aren't quite the nats they used to be in regards to large-base turreted ships.

TIE swarms have always been the bane of large base turret ships, since their damage mitigation can only go so far against that many shots.
