Red Ace, Horton and Jake - any advice?

By Rickenbacker69, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'll be going to my first store tornament in a week, and after soliciting some advice on Reddit, this is the list I'm most likely going with. Any advice, suggestions, caveats? Any input would be appreciated.

My thinking is that Red Ace can maneuver around most things, and probably survive the inevitable hits he'll take due to his lower pilot skill. Horton is useful for area control, and some slow, steady damage. Jake, meanwhile, is my ace hunter - since I landed on 98 points total, I figure most Soontir lists won't get to decide initiative, so I can have him move after the little squint and eventually take him out. Think that'll work?

And oh yeah, looking at the lists from recent Swedish tournaments, it seems like I'll be up against mostly classic Palpmobile/ace, Black Crack and Poe-centered ace lists.

Give horton the EPT droid and marksman, it makes him truely a threat...

Hmm, interesting. Unfortunately, I don't have that Astromech (yet :)), and I think that would put me too high for a decent initiative bid.

I like it and I like how we're starting to see the lower ps red ace crop up over poe now. I do feel like jake should have prockets over the horton upgrade though.

Horton is a trap. I want to like him a lot, but he dies to concentrated fire too easily.

Actually, the EPT droid (R2-D6) and Wired on Horton is where it's at. Just hang onto our stress and you're essentially Target Locked for every shot, plus you get a defensive re-roll. And in the current list you're left with 1 initiative point.

I'm always thinking how Horton will do with R4-D6. It's no good against tlts, but bigger guns might be reluctant to shoot him, making him possibly survive until the endgame.

I think I love you.

Married, but flattered.

How about this?

Poe Dameron (31)
Veteran Instincts (1)
R5-P9 (3)
Autothrusters (2)
Horton Salm (25)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
R2-D6 (1)
Wired (1)
Tycho Celchu (26)
Push the Limit (3)
Chardaan Refit (-2)
Daredevil (3)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)
Total: 100

That's... a very interesting point! I'll have to buy a transport - I knew it! That will have to wait until the next tournament, though.

I like it, but I'm trying to avoid Poe, since everyone knows him well by now. I'm also trying for an initiative bid, so that Jake can hunt aces effectively.

I like the prockets, but I don't think there's room for it in this build... I'd have to drop more than just the R2 unit to be able to afford it, and I'd probably lose the initiative...

Anyway, thanks for your input, everyone. I'm slowly arriving at a list that MIGHT not land me in last place. And even if it does, I'll still get my alt art card participation prize, and a great day :).

Just notice that you can never reroll a dice twice, so this doesn't work together with his ability, sure, its like a target lock but the marksmanship combo is nearly always 3 hits, on all shots.

You arent rerolling anything twice. Horton lets you reroll blanks, wired lets you reroll eyes, so you could reroll everything that isnt a hit with them both, just like spending a target lock. That being said Marksmanship is still better because turning eyes to hits is better then rerolling them, its also 2 more points and requires an action though. The wired combo just requires that you are constantly stressed.
