release the beasts?

By TerrorScream, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

after looking into beast tamer from the new bantha rider im considering a beast list.

beast | 40 points

Bantha Rider - 9
Elite Wampa - 8
Wampa - 5
Elite Nexu - 6
Nexu - 4
Tusken Raider - 5
Beast tamer - 1
Punishing Strike - 2

Command Cards

Close the Gap
Ferocity
Crush
Rally
Jundland Terror
Jundland Terror
Take Initiative
Urgency
Single Purpose
Wild Fury
Improvised Weapons
Opportunist
Negation
Survival Instincts
Brace Yourself

with beast tamer i can have the nexu's or rider relocate really fast to clog up an important area, or a wampa close the gap quite fast and since i can use it to interact instead the cheap nexu can fill objectives in a pinch or open a door! (lol) it really is the core of the list and since i can use it whenever can threaten the movement on anything at any time, making a nexu attack something 15 spaces away is a scary prospect

general plan it to cause as much damage as possible with the rider via stampeding around with things that give extra movement like close the gap, jundland terror etc and trampling wherever possible, maybe even crush if it comes up to kill a troublesome hero, while they are distracted having to deal with it can close the gap with the wampa's as the brawlers and the nexu's are there to flank and take out vulnerable models. the tuskans are backup and generally things i send after objectives or terminals to hold them after the nexu moves on.

the punishing strikes is there to turn bleed into stun to pin models down.

thoughts?

Both of the new maps (cantina and stormtrooper ones) require quite a lot of interaction to get points from objectives so unless you can kill your oponent really quick you are going to lose alot of points from ignoring objectives

That's a very good point. Perhaps some Hired Guns (good speed and can interact) would be a good substitution for the baby Nexu...I've never found the Reg Nexu to be worthwhile, personally. I've always liked the Elite Nexu though.

well thats why i put the tusken raider in there for, just to go for terminals or objectives plus the beast tamer card is there for the interact after my alpha strike, chose them over the hired guns because of the jundland terror cards in case i have a good opportunity with them or the bantha rider is down. ive been considering droping the punishing strikes to upgrade the other nexu to elite aswell, my elite one has been pretty good in my games.

almost forgot the size matters card, will have to find a spot for that in my command deck

Instead of eWampa and Punishing Strike, you're probably better off with 2 regular wampas.

Also, definitely hired guns instead of regular nexu.

Also, instead of the tuskens, you might consider bringing in gideon via temp alliance (and 3p0 or alliance smuggler if you can find the points), and also using devious scheme (which is fantastic).

For command cards, you might want Parting Blow to get in extra surprise attacks.

Single purpose just for the Bantha is questionable.

Field Tactician might be useful to get an extra move on a guy.

Fleet Footed is better than Improvised Weapons.

Element of Surprise or Set a Trap over Brace Yourself is probably better.

remember im not too worried about the objectives, with me jamming soo many beast down my opponents throat my 2 tuskens should be able to get where they need to be ok.

heres my revised list so far:

I added crush in even though just for the bantha because of the potential to instantly kill leia from quite some distance

If you want to go for some more hair, but still want a unit to interact with, how about allying some Wookies?

just dont feel i need anything else to interact with, 2 tuskens and the bantha rider can interact and any one of my beast can do so in a pinch, ive played all the current tournament missions and outside the drinks and dealings there isnt really that much interacting going on actually and drinks and dealings vp's are negligible for the effort. the other missions are terminal based which all my models qualify for.

the wookies seem cool but they dont add anything to the list, the tusken raiders are cheap, work with all my brawler cards and can be a medium ranged unit if i need them to be. i dont need to expose them to much combat so wont lose them that easily, but as my beast die off and they have done their objectives i can send them on to finish off weakened foes, the more i tweak it and test it(with proxies) the more i like it

i have considered droping the elite wampa to a regular one, with the 3pts left over maybe upgrading the tusken raiders to elite for a substantial health boost and the last point for devious schemes, thought on that?

That seems like a good idea. Test it. First I though the Tuskens were actually eTuskens, thus the change to Wookies were just a few points away. I think Elite Tuskens are very good.
