How would you beat a decimator/Firespray build?

By sucho23, in X-Wing

Wondering how to beat a decimator/firespray build if you were rebels? Thinking of flying a K-Wing, T-70 X-Wing, and an X-wing in a match or a YT-2400, T-70, and X-wing. Is there any general tactics or ideas when going up against those types of ships?

Sorry this is my first post, or I guess my first step into a larger world.

Go after the firespray first as the decimator is easier to kill with focus fire.

...there are lots of ways to build both of those ships. Are we talking fully loaded Kenkirk, or Patrol Leader with Vader Crew?

I need more details.

Cluster missiles and accuracy correctors. B-wings.

I'd play the long con.

Get into his headspace, rearrange his cupboards.

I always liked to make people think I was messing with them by always putting their toothbrushes in a bit of water every time I used their washroom, that way they'd think I was using their toothbrush and they'd throw it out. Little did they know they'd just thrown out a perfectly good toothbrush! Mwuhahaha!

Another good trick is whenever the Deci + FS31 player is eating, always look really interested in their food like you're waiting for them to eat it. When they finally take that first bite just drop your jaw and be like "oh man! I got you so good! I can't believe you ate that!". Then laugh at them when they throw away a perfectly good sandwich. I used to get people with that one all the time.

So much wasted food.

So many wasted hygiene products.

I'd play the long con.

Also, hide your own toothbrush and check everything you eat.

Kill the Decimator early, while you've got all your ships alive and firing on it. It'll go down the fastest.

If you reach the endgame without enough firepower to kill the Decimator before it kills you, you've got precious little hope. Its ability to fire out of arc means none of your shots go unanswered. The Firespray's flanks on the other hand can be assailed with no repercussions, if you've got the ability to maneuver there.

Depends on lists (for both sides), I guess, but my initial and general thought is that the Decimator should usually be the first to fall.

A LOT depends on the builds, on both sides. I am interested to hear what your opponents list looks like since I was just recently brewing on that same combo.

Pick one and focus fire on it till it dies, then turn on the other. Any shots of opportunity that present themselves on the second target are just a bonus.

If I say "too easy" Will that suffice?

Decimator is heavily reliable on his Boost to miss arcs and Isard for damage mitigation.

Dies to TLTs extremely fast, almost 2 guaranteed damage per turn from each TLT

so a YYYY build where 1 of them is a stress-Y brings deci down.

it might even bring it down in two turns >_< if the dice gods favor you and you get all the shots without ALL BLANKS space dice cancer.

Firespray? At Deci+Spray build we're most likely looking at Fett with Engine upgrade, some crew of his choice (No K4 for imps)

and Predator\Push the Limit elite pilot skill.

Either dump stress onto him and see him die, or block him with one Y and keep others out of arc.

I have no clue what build these are a part of. A Full-on 65 point aggro Decimator and a Bounty Hunter with a tactician?

~50 points into each?

Just shoot the things. 4BZ should melt the Deci in a turn and a half or so, then do your best to block the Firespray and just throw dice at it.

... If only it would be possible...

Looking like a decimator with kenkirk, mara jade, isard, and tactician and firespray with trelix, heavy laser cannon, merc co-pilot.

Thanks for providing details :)

It's easy to be overwhelmed as a newer player, so I'll just give you some general pointers.

  • Try to fly all of your forces together while concentrating on one target.
  • Which ship do you think is the biggest threat? Do some ships cost a lot? Do they deal a lot of damage?
  • Is there a ship that would suck to face when you only have half your squad remaining? You might have to take it out earlier rather than later.

To me, the Decimator with Ysanne Isard is going to be a pain late-game since it will get one free evade every turn (once it's damaged). When you have a lot of ships firing at it, that one free evade won't seem like a big deal, but if you only have one or two ships firing at it, that evade will really limit the damage you can deal per turn.

At the same time, that Krassis Firespray can deal a lot of damage. So the choice isn't so easy (which it shouldn't be!)... I would suggest trying to go for the Decimator. But if you end up in a situation where you can take down the Firespray quickly, take that opportunity. Krassis isn't as deadly when he's fleeing and firing out his rear arc.

Hope that helps!

I would try something like this just for fun against it.

Poe Dameron
R5-P9 (3)
Push the Limit (3)
Autothrusters (2)

Green Squadron Pilot #1

A-Wing Test Pilot (0)
Homing Missiles (5)
Cool Hand (1)

Concentrating fire on one target is a must.

Large ships don't like rocks, so pick the bigger ones and make a cluster.

Place your A-Wings at the free of asteroids path and force him to either go through the asteroids to get you of face you head on.

If he tries to go around the asteroids, make sure you have enough space to either cut him off through the roids with the A-Wings or wait for him as he exits them.
