Have just placed an order for 2 from shape ways, likely to be followed by another 8-10 once these first ones get to Australia for a test out xD
Feedback request for a ship tray
You. Are. A legend.
Nah, just listened to what people wanted while making a tray option that is as compact as possible.

Thanks! The consumer-level 3D printer I have access to is not as high quality as what Shapeways can do, so I'll probably get a couple myself to check out. Post some pictures once you get them. (I thought about only listed white, black, blue, and red so I'm glad I included all of Shapeways' color options since you ordered purple and orange.)
I think a command deck to hold a few squadron cards and tokens could be a good addition.
this tray is perfect. I would buy 10 of them right now.

I'll make one for single squadron cards with defense token spots for the named squadrons. I'll also do an add-on to this tray for upgrades and damage cards. It'll take another week to get the squadron one done and a couple more after that for the upgrade/damage cards.
The new ship tray is complete and up for sale on Shapeways! I did a lot of tuning and tweaking to get the price to an acceptable level for where I think trays should be priced.

(Even if I were to add a space for upgrades and damage cards, the price would be over $30 each, probably approaching $40.)
Comatose this looks great! Its a shame though that Shapeways charges so much...I guess they don't do volume discounts?

Thanks! Unfortunately, there's no benefit to volume production when it comes to 3D printing since there's no efficiency gained between making 1 or making 100. The plastic is cheap, but the printing process takes a lot of time. The fast-print prototype pictured took over an hour on my Makerspace's Lulzbot Mini. I explored having plastic molds made for injection-molded manufacturing, but the time I spent researching ruled that out as an option due to cost. I'd have to sell hundreds of them to break even and that includes potentially taking on sales and distribution myself. For now this is a hobby endeavor that makes me a little extra cash, but sales of the 3D-printed version could convince me to explore it as a side business.
Edited by comatoseI've done lots of casting for miniatures, and casting something like this with an OOMOO mold would cost you only a few bucks of resin per tray.

Are yours similar to this design?Nice. I already have trays that accommodate Upgraded ships. Having a few extras for the ships that are stock will be nice...
I'd be keen to get a few of each to try them out
I purchased these:

They have not yet arrived, but are on their way.

I have seen these on eBay, would be interested to know what they're like once you get them - I can't tell much from the photos
Just arrived!
Dead keen for a game

I ordered red and blue ones for myself. The difference between the printer I have access to and Shapeways is actually pretty astounding. These are perfectly smooth with no "lines" visible like on other 3-D prints.
