Hwk-290 ok list?

By Keithandor, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm not sure how this will go , any tips on using the Hwk-290?

Hwk (100)

Corran Horn (48) - E-Wing

Push The Limit (3), R2-D2 (4), Fire Control System (2), Engine Upgrade (4)

Bandit Squadron Pilot (12) - Z-95 Headhunter

Bandit Squadron Pilot (12) - Z-95 Headhunter

Kyle Katarn (28) - HWK-290

Veteran Instincts (1), Twin Laser Turret (6)

Recon specialist and moldy crow are nice additions to the HWK. Especially since he will be giving out his focus. So you won't have any way to alter your dice. If you just had the crow on there that wouldn't be to bad. You could get 3 focus on him before you start combat.

RS and MC seem pretty much mandatory on the HWK. The question is whether TLT gives enough punch to make up for the HWK's sub-par stats and dial. On the face of it, a Y-wing is a cheaper and sturdier vessel to carry the TLT so if you want a HWK, it seems like you really need to make the effort to maximise its special rules.

It is worth looking at other pilots and cards that can make fun use of Focus tokens. Poe Dameron, Garven Dries and R5-P9 all spring to mind as possible ways of getting best value out of those focus tokens.

The other option is to give Corran advanced protorps. Between FCS and Kyle it should be easy for him to line up a good shot, and then hit the target for 4 red dice and then probably 5 hits with the APTs.

I'm considering putting Kyle with Moldy Crow together with Poe so he would always be Focused and could use his own action to boost or target lock.

If you're gonna fly HWKs, fly HWKs :D

War HWKs are MEAN! That's pure HWK evil!

Before TLTs came out I used Birds of Prey and everyone at my friendly local gamestore laughed at how silly the build was (and the fact that I just put THREE HWK-290s on the board). Then I tabled my opponent's competative list without losing a ship. Everyone stopped laughing. :D It, clearly, has some major weaknesses (especially with some of the newer content) but the change in Damage Decks helps. It is still, for good reason, deathly afraid of Connor Jax!

I am tempted to shuffle some points on War HWKs II in order to get Greedo into the Spice Runner that does not get a pilot skill boost from swarm tactics.

Why would it matter if Greedo was on a ship with higher PS?

Because, against highly shielded ships, Greedo is pointless if that ships damage is applied to shields...

I don't see it actually. 4 TLT y's would be meaner. I don't think the extra support skills would make up for the Y dial and extra hitpoints.
