The Lead By Example countdown thread

By Desslok, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

Strategist is geared toward mass combat. Other than that he can use a knowledge check to get boost dice to give out during the encounter as long as the check can be applied to it.

Thxs man, sounds like what I was expecting more or less. Gonna have to check the mass combat rules when I get the chance!

So I got my copy today, finally. There is something I really like about the specs: they have some pretty good support talents, and have some decent synergy with a variety of other careers. Sure, some of the talents won't get much use outside of AoR, but a Guardian or a Hired Gun can get some serious mileage out of some talents, especially a Guardian with Improved Confidence or Master Instructor, or almost any character with That's How It's Done.

Almost reminds me of mass combat from L5R.

Very much so.

Actually, it feels upon read-through that it will be more like Burning Empires than L5R...

Still ... I think there's about a page of explanation in prose rules missing... how to pick objectives, etc.

It is nicely player facing, too. "Pick which goals" ... so it's easy to make the goals reflect their prior planning.

And its missing the worst part of the L5R battle-system.

The auto damage that can lead to character death without there input.

That's' probably intentional.

And it's a good thing.

I am effing livid right now. Last night, I called ahead to my FLGS and asked if they had Lead by Example. The guy on the phone said yes. Based on the layout of the store I assumed he could see them which is why he answered so quickly. I discover, upon arrival, that there are no such books in the store. I ask the guy behind the gaming counter if they have any and mention that I had called ahead. Turns out this guy unpacked 3 copies the previous night and assumed they had not sold out. He didn't check when I called. I assume this was because he was either lazy or incompetent. The store wasn't busy, so that wasn't an excuse. I lost 45 minutes both ways due to the bus routes and rush hour.

To be fair, I should have made him check or asked to have one set aside for me. I'm just venting right now. Regardless, I am now going to be patronizing a different franchise in the future.

Can someone tell me the Chagrian stats? Just to hold me over until I can find a copy in my city.

Speaking as someone who works in retail and has to deal with ***holes like you every day....you are an ***hole. Just me venting btw which totally makes it okay. /sarcasm

Speaking seriously yes it was upsetting that he didn't check properly as he should have, however you also should have asked to have one set aside so he would actively look and set it aside. How do you know they were in stock but in between your call and you getting there, people purchased from said store either via another employee or he maybe assumed you weren't coming since you didn't ask for one to be set aside.

Jesus H. Christ I hate people like you at my job. "Oh it's clearly laziness or incompetence on YOUR part. Well I am going to shop somewhere else." to be fair, I'm happy for your FLGS, sounds like you're the type to make a mountain out of a molehill....

Ahem...back to our regularly scheduled programming...I'm a bit surprised the UK haven't gotten this book yet, but I eagerly wait for it to arrive at my FLGS, one of my players is playing a Commander and I know he is eagerly awaiting his book. I am also curious as to see the next book announced, we know the Technician book is coming (fantastic!) and we have Nexus of Power on the way, which we know very little about, the future is bright for FFGs Star Wars RPG.

Due to my ridiculous over-analysis of announcement/release schedules, supplement patterns, etc., I have concluded that the next book to be announced in both the Age of Rebellion and Force and Destiny lines will be a new adventure module.

After Special Modifications comes out (likely release date of March 17, but possibly March 10), we'll get the third (and my guess is final) Region supplement for Edge of the Empire, before finally getting to the Bounty Hunter book to round out the total supplements at 3 adventures, 3 regions, and 6 career books.

I'd bump Special Modifications down on the docket. Nexus of Power was announced first. The last will be Savage Spirits. Hopefully we'll get an announcement soon, probably an AoR adventure module.

True, but there are a couple of things to consider: so far, the average time between announcement and release of career books is 126 days, while for region books it's 177.33. That also includes Strongholds of Resistance, which is the only book to have whole other books announced and released before it was released.

However, if we don't include SoR, the average for region books is still 139.5 days. Additionally, Edge books average a lower release time (127.3 days; 122.44 if we discount the CRB) than Force books (180.67; 185.5 without the CRB). All told, I think it's at least possible that Special Modifications comes out before Nexus of Power. Now, there are a lot more Edge books than Force books, so it's harder to get a feel of the trends for Force books, but that's how things stack up at the moment (I did say it was a ridiculous amount of over-analysis, didn't I?). Besides, if NoP goes to "Shipping Now" sometime next week, or even the week after, it could still have a release date of March 10, which would put it before SM anyway.

EDIT: Regarding new announcements, they've been quite variable so it's hard to say with certainty, but recent new announcements have been either two or three weeks after the previous release on that line, to the day. That means the most likely day for the next Age announcement is this upcoming Thursday, February 25. If we don't get one then, it means they're probably taking a break from Age books, and we won't get another one announced for a month or two.

Whoa dude. You're like a FFG Oracle.

Or a groundhog. If you see your shadow, it's three more weeks of books on boats.

Dudette, but yes :) . Making spreadsheets and data analysis are two of my favorite pastimes (other than RPGs, of course).

I try to avoid looking down, because that stupid shadow follows me everywhere, and I want the books off the boats, gosh darnit >_< !!

Unfortunately, the most telling data would be what date the status of each book changed, which would be amazing for establishing patterns and allowing predictive work, but it does not appear that FFG saved that information for previous releases. Which makes sense; only crazy people like myself would even care. But still, that's a while 'nother level of detail and analysis that I can't do!

And my OCD won't let me do it if I can't get that data for every book; I almost scrapped my current analysis because the announcement news post for SoT had been deleted, so I couldn't get the actual date. I got close enough using random posts from around the internet talking about it, but the fact that I can't be sure about that date is slowly driving me bonkers. Or, bonkers-er, as the case may be.

BTWs, the date I used for the announcement of Stay on Target is 08/22/2014; anyone have a more accurate date (with sources)?

He holds the Quay!

I haven't been able to locate this book yet, my FLGS didn't have it last time I went by. The announcement said the book included "a detailed catalog of military decorations for your fearless, dedicated Rebels to aspire to earn." Would anyone be able to provide any examples of what kinds of decorations or how many there are?

Corellian Cross, Illudium Star, Kalidor Crescent. Mantooince Medallion, Star of Alderaan and Medal of Alderaan.

I was somewhat disappointed by the medals section. It's crammed in the back, and doesn't include any pictures. The descriptions are fairly detailed, but still, pictures for at least SOME of them would have been nice...

Yeah the medals kinda disappointed me too. There is no mechanical benefit (not that you need one just kinda .....) and most of the info could have been gleaned from an afternoon on Wookiepedia if you're really all that gung ho on awarding medals. It kinda came off as space that could have been devoted to something else.

I've updated the talent sheets to include the material from Lead By Example.

I love you, Doc, and want to have your (space) weasel babies.

(blush)

Completely agree.

Though one positive thing is that I believe this is the first (and currently only) book that actually calls out Wedge Antillies. And confirms what everyone already knew as being the only living pilot authorized to wear both Death Star medals. I know that is common knowledge. But as Wedge is one of my top favorite characters (other being Corran Horn) the inner child in me jumped when seeing this.

Really? I don't know why the lack of pictures of medals should shock anyone. FFG have brande new ships, ships in general, that have no visual representation.

Has anyone in the UK actually got this yet? Esdevium haven't advertised it and both my FLGSs haven't received it.
