First Battle and CRAP!

By Boba Rick, in X-Wing

"I blew up your spaaaaaaace ships, with a big ball of fiiiireeee..." I sang to my daughter this morning, in the tune of John Denver's "Annie's Song."

Sadly, after she scuttled off to bed last night I dropped a Tie Fighter and the little peg broke off inside of it. CRAP! I couldn't get it out, but I was at least able to wallow it out with a hole and super glue a peg back in.

Does this happen a lot? I'm kinda OCD about my game pieces.

I've had to repair a TIE in much the same way. Having a tiny drill helps.

Dropping tie fighters or any ship can do that yes, that or the socket itself may pop off. The latter is the easiest to fix, just got to glue it back on again, but make sure it's facing the right way.

Having them just tip over normally isn't a thing, but if you drop them from say table height, then yes it's likely something will break. But so far I've not had anything break that I couldn't easily fix with some glue.

IME plastic model glue works better than superglue does.

In general, they will hold up pretty well. Sometimes you'll get one that's broken out of the box or some crazy accident will happen, but in general they're easy to fix and FFG has the greatest customer service ever. If you lose or break something or receive an item that's broken or missing components, email FFG with a picture and description of the issue. A pic of the UPC from the set doesn't hurt, either.

Haha! You're an awesome dad. John Denver ought to be very high on the list of things a father and daughter enjoy together. He is right up there with X-Wing and Star Wars. John Denver, Star Wars. Heck, you could add anything else to that and that'd be just fine.

I see a lot of these parent type posts and it kinda makes me feel all funny. I think there may be some "baking" going on if y'all know what I mean...

It's happened to us all, unfortunately. I've had it happen to a Fighter and an Interceptor. Just gotta be careful.

Or, you can replace the pegs with magnets. Because science.

Thanks. :-) I have five kids, so honestly the biggest reason I'm as deeply into boardgames is so that I can be home with my family. My two year old refers to all my painted Imperial Assault figures as "Jedi" - one of the few words he knows. I let him play with some of them, but after this experience no way he's touching my space ships....

Do FLGS usually sell replacement pegs for X-Wing?

In fact...

I feel a SONG comin' on!

Almost nowhere, Planet Jakku, Kelvin Ridge Mountains, Starship Graveyard River

There's some junk there, a lot of junk there, looks kinda like mountains, burnt carbon on the breeze

Hyperdrives, Oh find me a home where I belong

Planet Jakku, Jedi mama, take me home, Hyperdrive

All my memories seems to fail me, orphaned kiddo, a stranger to my folks

Dark and shinin' streakin' cross the sky, for that taste of space flight I would surely die

Hyperdrives, take me home to a place up in the stars now

Planet Jakku, Stormtrooper buddy, come with me, hyperdrive

I hear him bleepin' bloopin, that little droid that followed me from my home so far away

Oh but flyin' in this ol' girl I get a feelin like I've found a home, a home to stay to stay

Hyperdrives, take me n' my home to a place we belong

Oh Planet Jakku, Jedi mama, take me home, hyperdrive

Hyperdrives, takin' me home so I can find my destiny yeah

Planet Jakku, (Sweet Millennium Falcon!), take me home, hyperdrives

Take me home now, hyperdrives

Take me home now, hyperdrive

fin.

Also, just throwin it out there.

The world really needs another John Denver right now.

make ball magnets.

Shifting and angling whatever you like, they are fun not only for kids.

But a kid will surely have lots of it, and you'll never have the broken peg problem.

First rule of any miniatures game is magnets make everything better. For 40K it's nigh on essential. For X-wing you can make them look like the ships are banking etc just make sure they are strong enough for the bigger ships...

Hmmmm... I'll look into the magnets.

Is it okay to run a T-65 pilot on a T-70 X-Wing, or vis-versa? I'll be getting the original core and I though running Luke and Biggs together might be cool.

No, the pilots are locked into whatever ship that is listed on the card. You can run T-70's and T-65's in the same list, but you can't put Biggs or Luke in a T-70.

You could for casual games use the T-70 model and base card as long as you track the stats on the pilot card correctly. The real issue would be the dial.

Still never broken a peg nor have any of my mates must be lucky.

5mm magnet sphere and 10-5-3 "conical ring" (I don't know how to name it, it's supposed to be screwed with a...screw..to something)

hold any non-Imperial big ship so far (didn't test on imps, don't have any big imps, and Firespray is Scum. he loves is magnet)

without any problems.

the only thing I added to the design is some two-component epoxy into the middle, to make it coarse, for extra friction.

This way even YV can bank and yaw whatever you want (and yeah, YV can be put upside down, it really starts looking more realistic, yet somehow recembles a Zeppelin now)

One of my TIE/Fos? After its first game I went to pick it up and its peg just straight fell out. Didn't drop it, didn't try to yank it apart. Just grabbed the pegs connecting the stand and the connection to the TIE itself just slid right out.

Slapped on some modelling glue and it was literally better than new, seeing as how when it was new it was moments away from breaking under its own weight.

If It can hold the YV666 it can hold any non huge.

The last real test is the upcoming ghost.

Don't worry - once you've got a couple of expansions you'll have more spare pegs than you know what to do with. You can only use so many ships per game, after all (unless your name is Joe Boss Red Seven, that is).

Another tip - I usually only use one peg per base, unless the ship absolutely needs two (B-Wings, StarVipers etc).

Fuzzy Jr. Cracked the bottom part of the peg holder on Boba.

I've broken a couple pegs. I drill a hole in the ship with a pin vice and a hole in the broken peg, and glue them back together with a small piece of brass tube, and they're stronger than ever.

CRAP = Can't Remember All Pilots.

I thought you were having a bad senior moment.

You can usually contact FFG and tell them what happened. They usually send you extra pegs or whatever. I did lose a base one time in a large haul of minis. I accidentally threw it away! They sent a new one. Their customer service is aces.
