X-Wing Still Being Developed

By Rafens, in X-Wing

Hero clix (and really, the clix base concept in general) is a game with fantastic potential being killed by incompetant management. Wizkids is actually probably worse than GW in a lot of respects.

That almost seems impossible, GW are almost worse then EA.

Even if they are overcosted, I think GW still has some good production values. Wizkids does not.

I still love the 40k universe and they have really great models for their game. My issue with GW is mostly in the form of the cost and their rules.

One thing is for sure based on this weeks news items; REBELLION DAM-SURE IS!!!

:o:huh::lol:

Uh... being developed.

:)

I used to play 40k Epic. Awesome game. I ended up with 6 full regiments and something like 3 battalions each with regiments support. About half is painted, my friend not me. He even painted the bolts and belt buckles.

How I have to figure how to unload my 40k stuff so I can buy more Star Wars stuff.

You let me know, I have the same mindset. Suppose I could list them from work.

I just listed mine on Ebay. Didn't get as much as I wanted for them, but I got enough and it's not like I didn't get any enjoyment out of them so I was happy.

I had my army displaced because of storage. I lost them, and got half an army donated to get me moving, but I don't have time for much of anything from working two jobs.

heroclix is in a constant flux based on how good the sets are in terms of rules and production values. it flips between "dead gaem sky falling" and "golden age thank you based wk" about once a year or so.

(for reference the last golden age i played during ran from july 2013 to august 2014. i havent played since early 2015 because the venue kept pushing sealed of bad sets and i wasnt gonna buy that.)

also how about those x wangs on this, the x wang board.

Even if they weren't its still worth it.

But you have nothing to worry about.

This game is going to be around for a good long while

At least that's what the little leprechaun tells me

A good comparison perhaps between number of releases and game's presence is Star Trek Attack wing... despite being on their 20th+ wave, the game is in retreat despite being touted by some as 'X-Wing 2.0'

We're at full steam right now. With two more movies to come out and some really cool comics, books and other media on the way or in the works I'd say now is as good a time as ever to pick up your core set.

The older ships are still play worthy and perform nicely against and alongside the newer models. There is a lot of lore attached to everything, even if you don't recognize a ship you see, a simple google search will get your imagination pumping. FFG draws from a lot of sources and has even gone ahead and made up their own ship, so there is plenty of room for expansion.

Come join the ranks! There is probably a game store nearby with an X-Wing club already and if not, start one! I did and tomorrow is the first night of our first tournament!

I don't want to burst your bubble, but Aftermath and Marvel's new comics are pretty ****. Rebels is questionable because it's a children's show, but the only good media to grace the franchise since Disney took over was just the new movie. Everything else is Legacy equivalent crap or mediocre.

The main thing that's going to guarantee that this game sticks around for awhile is the fact that we've got a ton of movies coming out over the next few years. That alone will drive up the interest in the game.

4 more movies. At the least. Episode 8, 9, Rogue One, Han Solo.

The cost for the new Archaon model is $280.

I can get a whole army for Kings of War for the price.

How come you don't play Epic any more?

Epic lost formal continuation and is much harder to get a game going.

A very popular opinion to be sure.

Short answer to the O.P.: Yes.

Releasing new product isn't really an indicator of a game's health. Heroclix is about to release a new set and I wouldn't exactly bank on that game being around that much longer, though in fairness I've felt that way about Heroclix for the last 8 years and it's still going so what do I know?

Not that it's relevant to this topic, but do you really think Heroclix is dying out? I just got into it this year. Granted, I only got into it because a friend, who isn't into miniature gaming but is into comics decided to give it a try and I wanted to encourage his exploration of miniature gaming. Additionally, I find the game ok, and beat him every time(years of gaming makes you good at strategy) and since he's a poor loser, may quit soon, so it might not even matter to me if the game dies, but I would still care a tiny bit if Heroclix died.

But as others have said, Xwing isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Complaining about Heroclix's balance issues and overreliance on license recognition would be a dead horse argument were it not for the fact that the game is still around. So instead we're beating a zombified horse.

EDIT: Sorry, I kind of mixed my metaphors. Or overextended it. What I meant by saying that is that people have been complaining about Heroclix's poor balance issues and other problems for a long time, but the game relies on the strength of it's licenses to survive even though the game itself is substandard.

I like Halo and when I've asked if I could just buy a Halo Heroclix/Actionclix lot off of ebay and field a bunch of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, I was told that it's considered a seperate game/a different format/it's not golden age or silver age or whatever bull.

Then I asked if I could just pay a few bucks and buy a bunch of SWAT/cops and use a swarm of those and was told you can only activate a small amount of them and that something like Superman would effectively be invincible against it.

I've played it once or twice and it's okay. I used to play Heroscape, Heroclix is just that /other/ game that you cannibalize the figures from because they're of similar scale.

And the idea of a miniatures game sold in a randomized blind TCG manner is ******* stupid. This is why X-Wing and Heroscape are/were master race.

Back when hero clix first came out, before wizkids imploded and got reinvented, my cousin (who is a HUGE comics collector) and I wanted to put together a big, multi player hero clix scenario that took place during a riot. One player would play a super villain and a few minions, another player would play a team of heroes, a couple more players would play police and a bunch of players could play groups of rioting civilians. So the villains are trying to accomplish some goal. The heroes want to defeat the villains and minimize civilian casualties, the rioters have the goal of looting storefronts, beating up cops and causing property damage and the cops are mainly trying to stop the civilians, with a side goal of defeating both teams of super powered individuals.

Started collecting some terrain and stuff for it, but never managed to pull the whole thing together.

Epic lost formal continuation and is much harder to get a game going.

No, I know it's out of print, but why let that stop you from playing? There's a thriving community over on the taccom forums and they still run a bustling tournament circuit. And better, GW no longer has anything to do with it!

A very popular opinion to be sure.

Aftermath has taken a bit of a beating, but I've heard nothing but praise for the new comics and most of the other new EU stuff. Lost Stars was an excellent book, for example.

Yeah, all those comics are pretty dang good as far as I'm concerned. Darth Vader is especially well-written. I haven't read the books yet.
