Is FF still developing/expanding this game set? I am just getting involved with X-Wing and love it, but don't want to go too deep if this is dying out.
X-Wing Still Being Developed
Definitely not dieing out
Usually 2-3 new "waves" of new ships per year.
Yes. Wave 8 is currently right about to launch, and FFG has recently announced another expansion pack, Imperial Veterans, that's several months out. I would expect within a month that Wave 9 is going to be announced. Plus, with the Rebels TV show, EP7, Rogue One, and EP8 all providing sources for new ships, they won't run out of material yet. Plus, FFG has been able to go into the EU Legends as well, so there's plenty out there. There is no reason to suspect that this game is going anywhere anytime soon. Last year it officially jumped into the #2 miniatures game, behind only WH40k.
Yes, no signs of stopping at this juncture.

There's no danger of X-Wing dying out any time soon. A new wave of ships is about to be released, and the new movies provide plenty of new source material for future expansions. The game is more vibrant than ever, and it's a great time to get involved!

8 days old, still on FFG's front page:

I expect new ships per year to maintain for several more years at least.
Releasing new product isn't really an indicator of a game's health. Heroclix is about to release a new set and I wouldn't exactly bank on that game being around that much longer, though in fairness I've felt that way about Heroclix for the last 8 years and it's still going so what do I know?
Even if FFG disappeared right now, the game would go one for years. I play Lord of the Rings SBG from GW. That game has long died but devoted fans keep it going.
Awesome! Thanks very much for boosting my confidence in this game!

It's an indication of one of two things. Either the game is healthy enough to support new units/products. Or it's a last ditch attempt at saving the game with something new and exciting.
For the latter, it would normally follow a fairly lengthy point of no new stuff. But by and large no company is going to produce stuff that no one is buying.
They just renewed the license. They are in a very good place with Star Wars. And I doubt they want to kill one of their biggest games.
Wizkids, Wizkids has issues. Completely pulling out of Gencon is not a great sign.

Really ? Wow. I haven't touched their stuff since they killed Mechwarrior and Pirates.
Urgh Mechwarrior dark age was trash I'm glad it died, classic btech and alpha strike are much better.

Not that it's relevant to this topic, but do you really think Heroclix is dying out? I just got into it this year. Granted, I only got into it because a friend, who isn't into miniature gaming but is into comics decided to give it a try and I wanted to encourage his exploration of miniature gaming. Additionally, I find the game ok, and beat him every time(years of gaming makes you good at strategy) and since he's a poor loser, may quit soon, so it might not even matter to me if the game dies, but I would still care a tiny bit if Heroclix died.
But as others have said, Xwing isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Complaining about Heroclix's balance issues and overreliance on license recognition would be a dead horse argument were it not for the fact that the game is still around. So instead we're beating a zombified horse.
EDIT: Sorry, I kind of mixed my metaphors. Or overextended it. What I meant by saying that is that people have been complaining about Heroclix's poor balance issues and other problems for a long time, but the game relies on the strength of it's licenses to survive even though the game itself is substandard.
Edited by SquarkSeems to be picking up in my area. The Force Awakened certainly didn't hurt sales of Star Wars items. Judging by the fact that they have sold out of some of the recent scum releases I would say that they are doing alright at the moment.
But yes, hilarity aside, X-Wing is booming. Wave 8 is almost here, Imperial Veterans has been announced... Force Awakens can still deliver more content...
...then there's Wave 9, Scum Huge Ships, Scum Aces/Veterans, Rebel Veterans, Wave 10, more Rebels ships...
...Star Wars: Rogue One...Episode VIII...
WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!

Yes, I do think it's dying out. Like I said I've been thinking that for years and it's still here so who knows.
For what it's worth when I used to play it I thought it was a great game.

Really? Hadn't heard that. People were so pissed at them for how they screwed up stuff at the con last year so badly, did they decide they couldn't afford the bad press from another one?
Hero clix (and really, the clix base concept in general) is a game with fantastic potential being killed by incompetant management. Wizkids is actually probably worse than GW in a lot of respects.

Well, they pulled out of the dealer hall last year. 2 years ago was a major point of contention between Wizkids and Gencon. Wizkids was unwilling to do what it takes to have a nice line like FFG, which you add in a limited supply of stuff that goes for major bucks on the secondary market, you get Black Friday like situations. A lot of funny blame was placed on Gencon by Wizkids staff. Ironically, Wizkids seems to have "lost" one of their staffers who was a major source of complaints. And now, they just up and pulled out of Gencon, claiming that Gencon wouldn't give them the space they felt they needed. Big mean old Gencon wouldn't give them the space they felt they deserved, because previous attendance for their events didn't meat Gencon's criteria for added space. So mean for Gencon not to believe Wizkids. So, the only other option for Wizkids was to pay more for more space. And thus, we have Wizkids pulling out of Gencon entirely.
I am just thankful a TMNT Descent-like game is coming. Otherwise, I might be tempted to get TMNT clix.

And that WH40k includes ALL Warhammer sales, not just the miniatures game, so they got that going for them, which is nice.
