I have just found out about Vassal and that I can actually play x-wing on it.
Could you recommend me some kind of league or tournament that is still open for registration?

Looking for Vassal tournament
There is a very large vassal league in "preseason" testing right now. It just started in the last week and a half after months and months of planning. It's run by two very stand up gentleman. If you get signed up now, you will get in relatively soon (a week or two to take the place of the players that inevitably will fall off the face of the earth OR worse case, in the next round starting in February).
