Good News Everyone (well me anyway...)

By KrisSherriff, in X-Wing

Hi all,

Wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who tuned in to watch some Monday Night Gaming at http://www.twitch.tv/sentrybox.

I am not going to lie, it was a vast undertaking as I was only asked about the possibility of actually streaming games on the 9th of January and in 10 days we (I say we as I could not have done it without you guys!) have taken it from an idea where I streamed some test games on my personal channel (http://www.twitch.tv/dantanian) where i managed to somehow, with no notice hold around 15 viewers all day.

Now I know that does not sound like a lot but considering I was streaming unknown players playing casual games with no overlay and I was having to do all of the commentary myself it convinced me that not only could we do it that we could try to do something that, in my mind had never been done before for a table to gaming stream.

To give you all some idea of what we accomplished we took the channels followers form 8 (they had streamed a MTG event in 2014 so I assume they were from then) to 141, over 100 of you followed before we had even put any content out, for which I am eternally grateful!

The motivation that gave helped push me on, as I was responsible for convincing the players to turn up, getting the lists in, creating the overlay from nothing, supplying the equipment, producing the show, all of the graphics, hosting, commentating and then trying to build a little hype as well. Not to mention a much needed break form the pressure of trying to put a show together by jumping on to Nova Squadron Radio to talk X-Wing and The Force Awakens with people I very much consider friends. (Love you guys!)

I am not going to lie, it was an exhausting week. Luckily for me it was filled with mainly highs, my first ever Reddit Post hit number 1 on the X-Wing sub reddit, the response on here was well received, my wife didn't flip out when I told her that I needed to spend more money on stuff to do the stream (despite the fact that I have already left a much better paying job to "work" in a field where my income is in no way secure)

What does all of this mean, and why am I shearing?

OK, I will get to the point.

We are a GO!

Not only will we be streaming the main events that we host (which was the original plan) but we will be looking to produce regular shows, maybe not always featuring X-Wing (Boo, I know) but we will be putting together a show as regularly as we can.

Now before you all get too excited, I am the sole person doing this and I have no training as a Graphic Designer, Producer, Host, Editor or any of the things needed so please keep the faith. I am not promising that I will get us to the levels or RIOT Games hosing the LCS broadcasts for League of Legends or Soccer Saturday (insert you sports analysis show here...) but I will work as hard as I am able to give you all as much high quality content in as many different medias as I can.

I set my self a 4 month window in my life when I left my previous job to see if I could do this, and although I my personal "brand" has had to be put on a side burner (sorry to the people who like my blog...) I feel that my work with Ed and the guys on Nova Squadron Radio and my work with the Sentry Box has me convinced I can do it.

Thanks for reading,

Kris Sherriff

P.S. If you got this far you deserve a reward so here is the link to the final edited version of Episode 1 of Monday Night Gaming
