Squadron Campaign Adventure Ideas

By Ebak, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

*Spoilers for anyone in Rakghoul Squadron*

Hey all! In a few short weeks I am starting up a brand new campaign for my local group where they play a group of commando fighter pilots (like Wraith Squadron). I wanted to get the ball rolling on future adventure ideas or maybe even whole campaign ideas for other people who may have run or be running squadron campaigns, and to look for feedback on my own ideas.

Naturally I already have a few ideas for the first few adventures my players will be doing, 'Without A-Wing to Fly With':

Their arrival at Arda Base as new cadets goes smoothly and they are informed that they are part of a new project to create a new type of ship based on the Jedi Starfighters of old, codename: Project Spearhead.

Their first adventure is a heist at an Imperial War Museum on Corulag where the team will have to find a way to steal a pristine Delta-7 Starfighter and Eta-2 interceptor. Of course over the years these ships internal components may not be working and they lack fuel, so they will need to secretly get them working before distracting security and blasting out of their with their new ships.

Next, they must get the components that will be needed to convert these ships into a faster and powerful version of the R-22 Spearhead, this will be a quick piracy mission on a convoy bound from the Novaldex corporation who have been said to produce the fasted sublight engines in the galaxy. After acquiring the necessary parts, the team will work on constructing the new 'A-Wing'.

Test flights of the new starfighters begin, but the PC's are pulled aside from the rest of the squadron and informed by the command that they have received intelligence that one of their squadmates intends to steal the new prototype and deliver it to the Empire for analysis. They must root out and find the person who is the most likely culprit, the twist is that the traitor is only going along with it because the Empire has his son, the boy is being kept at the small landing field ISB are using for the handoff of the fighter. Even though this is a good reason, he is still a traitor and the Alliance would convict him as a traitor and his son would be killed by the Empire, it's unlikely the hardass commander would risk a rescue operation either, the team must do the hand-off themselves and launch a surprise raid on this landing field to rescue the boy and return him to his father.

Thoughts? If you have other ideas for squadron based adventures, please post them here!

Edit: I intend the ISB agent who arranged the capture of the boy to become a recurring adversary for the group.

Second Module; "On A-Wing and a Prayer"

Third Module: "Now We B-Winging It"

I dont have any other ideas! but ill think on it, great start you have there though.

Thank you, and you've captured my love for punny titles.

I do plan on running through the pre-written adventures and adapt them for the group, but I would like to have ideas for other adventures to do beyond the books, those two titles are already sparking ideas. I look forward to seeing what other ideas people contribute.

Now You See Me

Rebel Intelligence has received word that the Empire is working on a new "stealth" ship dubbed the 'Phantom'. Infiltrate the Imperial base where test on the new TIE are being conducted and destroy the research for the cloaking device. Retrieve prototype if at all possible for project Spearhead, otherwise destroy it.

I'm interested in what people come up with for this, as the Squadron campaign is one I've wanted to run for a while. My idea for an over-arching campaign was:

Top Blaster

Shortly after Yavin, the Rebel Alliance sends its top pilots to the base on Tierfon to train for an elite new squadron. Unfortunately due to a routing mistake the PCs arrive instead, and must train as pilots in order to fulfill the death-defying missions they are sent on. This could be for a group of new PCs who've just completed Takeover at Whisper Base, and it would essentially be an opportunity to throw them completely off the rails in how they expect the campaign to run.

And some mission ideas:

Jungle Patrol

The pilots are sent out for some low-flying training. Along the way they find that the local wildlife is a little more predatory than they expected (think the flying creatures from Avatar). This would use flying melee opponents, something you don't see in a lot of vehicle encounters.

Down by the River Side

The PCs are on a normal patrol along the valley of the River Tier when they encounter a patrol of TIE Bombers with fighter escorts heading at low altitude towards a village. They start out at Extreme range and if they close the distance to the target the village will be utterly destroyed. The twist: the bombers are flying at ultra-low altitude, forcing upgraded flying checks to be thrown around like they're going out of fashion.

Convoy Patrol

The squadron's first mission is a Blue Milk Run, escort a convoy through space the Empire hasn't visited in years to a base in a pretty-much-neutral corner of the galaxy. Unfortunately the run just happens to coincide with a newly-initiated crackdown on Rebel, smuggler and pirate activity in the sector, and they run into an Interdictor cruiser that they must target if they want to get out alive.

Ambush

In a reversal of the last mission, the PCs are sent to ambush an Imperial convoy from the safety of an asteroid belt. However they soon find that the local defences are a little more than intelligence predicted...

You could go from there to set up a Traitor! type scenario in the squadron, with all the fun that entails. You could also throw in the TIE Phantom mini-adventure from SoR, which I haven't run, but it looks very fun.

One of my PCs is secretly an Imperial Agent, so I look forward to playing around with that.

Here's my pitch for a TIE Phantom adventure I plan to run later on in the campaign.

Footprints in the Sand

Rumours have been circulating that the Hutts are raising an army so that they can make a bid to expand their region. Rebel Intelligence has recieved reports that Dural Canter, the guy behind the creation of the Empires new 'Wraith' project, and head test pilot, abandoned the Empire along with his systems operator and the prototype craft itself. Rumour mill says he is now working with the Hutts army on a base located somewhere on Geonosis. Getting the craft could be a valuable asset, but they can't risk upsetting the Hutts and have them side with the Empire. The PCs are tasked with locating the base, and stealing the prototype. One of the PC's love interest was sent undercover as a dancer in the nearby town, but the rebellion has lost contact. They are to do their best to implicate the Empire in the theft. Meanwhile, the traitor PC is ordered to make sure the Rebellions mission is exposed to the Hutts.

Non prize for anyone who guesses where I got and adapted this idea from.

Well I don't have a clue where it's from, so I'll not be taking the non-prize...

Sounds a bit like the pilot episode of Airwolf. Please don't name any character 'Stringfellow'.

Ding ding ding, Grimm takes the non-prize! I figured it was a great plot idea.

Refit Raid

Alliance scouts have discovered a small Empire ran drydock build into an asteroid near Iego, currently it is commencing repair on a Gozanti class carrier, the Reclaimer. It seems the Empire has deemed this an appropriate time to refit the vessel, the drydock just received shipments of XX-6 Heavy Turbolasers, getting even just one of those would be a boon for the Alliance, but they're too big for any raiding team to simply tug away. The base is small and although well defended, it's perimeter could easily be breached, they have a small defense force of turrets, and TIE Fighters. Given the circumstances we've decided to let the Empire foot the bill for refiting our latest Nebulon B, Freedom Force with their finest turbolasers. Squadrons will attack the base defenses until the base is crippled, teams will then descend into the base and capture the personnel of the base and release any prisoners they have working there for labor. We will destroy what's left of the Gozanti and the Freedom Force will dock with the station, from that moment repair crews will be working double time to get those turbolasers installed, during this time it will be up to the squadrons to defend against any reinforcements that come to assist the station, there is probably another Gozanti or even a Victory-Class star destroyer lurking in the system, so expect resistance. Once the installation is complete all ships will defend the Freedom until it makes it to the jump point, scuttling the base as it goes.

I think one of my PC's, who is playing an Imperial Spy kind of outdone himself, about two hours after the session, I got this:

Bah! Photobucket sucks - there's no magnify button and it's too tiny as-is!

Upper right I thought there was one there?

Oh, never mind - my browser was acting up. I can see it at work.

EDIT - but photobucket still sucks.
