Vader & Friends

By Wildhorn, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I recently fly a list made of Vader + Wampa + 4 Academy Pilot and really enjoyed it, but I tought it could get better.

Original List:

Darth Vader (29)
Predator (3)
Advanced Targeting Computer (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)
TIE/x1 (0)
"Wampa" (14)
4x Academy Pilot (12)
Total: 99

Problem with the list is that I either forget I have Predator equiped or when I remember it I either don't need it or reroll blanks into blanks. Poe with VI gives to Vader some trouble and Wampa even if it strike fear in the heart of my opponent, never really did anything amazing.

So I was thinking to switch to either of these lists (which of course have AC/DC names):

Can I Sit Next to You, Girl

Darth Vader (29)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Advanced Targeting Computer (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)
TIE/x1 (0)
"Howlrunner" (18)
Crack Shot (1) (or Swarm Tactics (2))
3x Black Squadron Pilot (14)
Crack Shot (1)
Total: 99 (100)

Which has the advantage of being very strong, but it is a 5 ship list, while I prefer to have 6 of them.

Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap

Darth Vader (29)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Advanced Targeting Computer (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)
TIE/x1 (0)
5x Obsidian Squadron Pilot (13)
Total: 100

This one has 6 ships, but the Ties don't have any reroll or modifiers.

So I am not quite sure which one of these two list is stronger than the other one. Probably the first one would beat the 2nd one just because of the PS4-8 with Crackshot would down one or 2 of the PS3 Tie before they fire back, but I don't know if the extra TIE in the 2nd list would not be better against other lists.

Which one do you prefer?

I've always preferred Vader with VI, and Howlrunner is a lethal boost for TIEs. Also, Crackshot wins games. Second list would be my first choice.

I ran a VERY similar list to your "Can I sit next to you, girl", only swapping VI for Juke on Vader. It was brutally efficient in a local tourney, and the only game I have lost with it was against a Poe/RedAce/Stresshog list where I couldn't eliminate a ship round 2 and then the ties started popping. Managed to kill the stresshog, but by then it didn't have enough punch to kill a regenning Xwing.
