Sinister Sith

By Jagdtiger, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I just bought the Imperial Raider this weekend and scored Palpatine and the TIE Advanced upgrades. I have a store tournament coming up at the end of February and if Wave 8 is out by then I was thinking of running this 99 point list:

Darth Vader — TIE Advanced29Predator3Advanced Targeting Computer1Engine Upgrade4TIE/x10Ship Total: 37Omicron Group Pilot — Lambda-Class Shuttle21Reinforced Deflectors3Emperor Palpatine8Ship Total: 32The Inquisitor — TIE Advanced Prototype25Juke2Autothrusters2TIE/v11Ship Total: 30

It's a take on the popular Vader, Fel, Palp lists, but with the Inquisitor as an arc dodger and not Soontir. I rather like it, but the question is, hows's it going to play? AS I've never played a Palpmobile list before what's a common strategy?

Vader wants VI so bad, he can't even stand it. PS11 is kind of the reason to run him, imho. Making him the definitive answer to Poe, Soontir, and other random PS9s and PS10s is more valuable than re-rolling the blank die you roll every other turn. Especially if Emperor has the power to fix those blanks anyway, when they're clutch. It's also two points cheaper.

If we're playing with Wave 8 ships, I like Electronic Baffler on the shuttle over the deflector. Then, with the spare points, you can put Proton Rockets someplace. I'd also go with PtL over Juke, but that's probably personal preference. Juke might be better in the Stresshog meta.

Generally the shuttle wants to stay out of it - his ability on the aces is general worth more than the shuttle's unmodified attack - and making opponents chase the shuttle to shut it down (whilst being whaled on by two aces) is essentially the list's party piece.

Electronic Baffle is probably best for this - allowing you to do a stop move, or a hard turn, for two turns in a row as desired, which makes the shuttle hard to pin down. Remember - if you don't get a shot with the lambda, and your opponent doesn't get a shot at the lambda, that turn is a net win for you, because you've still got Darth Psoriasis in the back seat doing his evil dice ju-ju.

Plus, it's cheaper. And that, combined with dropping Predator to Veteran Instincts, gives you an extra option.

  • Darth Vader - TIE/x1, Veteran Instincts, Advanced Targeting Computer, Engine Upgrade
  • The Inquisitor - TIE/v1, Push The Limit, Autothrusters
  • Captain Yorr - Electronic Baffle, Emperor Palpatine

Taking Yorr instead of an Omicron Group Pilot gives you a bit of insurance against stress-heavy lists - Yorr can pull stress tokens off anyone within range 1-2, and (if required) can eat them immediately using the electronic baffle. That's superb protection from a Twin Laser Turret/R3-A2/BTL-A4 Y-wing, which could otherwise put so much stress on an action-dependent ace that they're dead meat the next turn (especially Vader, who struggles to shift stress once he picks it up).
