The Bro Stands Alone?

By superdave, in X-Wing

Where is the value in a solo IG-88? Which do you fly solo? How do you kit it out? What do you fly it with? For those of us with only one Aggressor, what tips can you offer?

So far with a sycksniper and however many Z's I can afford...

I've seen Firespray/Aggressor combos.

I personally like to squeeze in a Z95 when I fly two Aggressors. It takes the heat off the IGs just long enough against lists that give Brobots issues.

IG88B is the only one I've seen flown solo, which makes sense given that it has by far the best pilot ability.

I've flown a solo aggressor with 2 starvipers. The earn their points in pairs.

There is a whole many page thread that talks about Boba Fett with IG-88 B.

I think the dual IG-2000 builds tend to encourage you to spend a lot on upgrades - they don't necessitate it exactly, but with the slots they have available, it's tempting to spend all 28 remaining points on upgrades rather than a third (or fourth) ship.

Run one on it's own as part of a more extensive build, however, and it's tempting to keep it cheap and fill the spaces with more bodies and shots. And a 36 point IG88B is a pretty solid ship in and of itself.

If you want to watch one of the top Vassal players flying a solo IG-88B, here you go: Blair Bunke versus MattShadowlord (once the YouTube link is updated, I'll change the link over as I'm not sure how long this one will be valid... and it will be more concise I'm sure).

Blair was flying:

IG-88B with HLC, Predator, Autothrusters, Advanced Sensors and Inertial Dampeners

Syndicate Thug with TLT

Binayre Pirate x 2

Pretty amazing game and the outcome is unclear for a very long time...

You can solo a Crab Bro

but it's just not_exactly_that_good without his bro.

Pilot ability is...well...let's say

4 points worth on B
3 points worth on C

2 points worth on A and D

not something I like losing.

FULL FORWARD MY METAL BROTHERS!
KILL ALL HUMANS!

IG-88B with HLC, Crack Shot, Fire Control System, and Autothrusters

2 Thugs with TLT and R4 Agromech.

You can save a ton of points by ditching the cannon and going for C or D.

IG-88 non-B

Autothrusters

Push the Limit

Advanced Sensors

And then a 56 point game ruining Scum Super Dash should do pretty well. You can also go lighter and go for Adrenaline Rush and Inertial Dampeners, gain some hypermobility and some extra points.

This was my exact list for our first Store Champ, and it is strong. I went 3-2 with it, but that was because of pilot error in my two losses. Most people would target the IG as the biggest threat, while the Thugs would reliably do 3-4 dmg every turn to a target of my choice. R4s mean even things with 3 green dice die really fast. The only things I struggled with was Fel backed up by a full defensive stack and the Emperor, and SJ Phantoms, however i feel both can be be beaten by the list.

without B and that tasty R3-bonus-denying crit-tasting mangler cannon goodness

it'll be a really hard day for Crab Bros, Im afraid.

But so far I'm sticking to Predator + sensor too often. Helps against swarms and PS2 K and Y-wings that started spawning in disturbing amounts almost as well as a FCS would. With arc-nemesis PWTs almost gone now due to the same disturbing shift crab bros need some refurbishing and I'm even starting to think about Sensor Jammer crabs.

predator and sensor jammer. Spit in the face of stressers and laugh in binary!

IG-88 A, C or D - 36 pts

Mando Merc - 35 pts

Trandoshan Slaver - 29 pts

= 100 pts

This is a fun list

IG-88B with HLC, Crack Shot, Fire Control System, and Autothrusters

2 Thugs with TLT and R4 Agromech.

Since 60% of squads I face have Poe in them, why not sub Y-Wing out for TLT Palob? And the other 40% of squads have Soontir in them, would you look at that.

That squad seems killer.

I enjoy running glittercrack IG-B alongside Latts Razzi with k4/bossk/gunner/engine.

Makes sense, because IG-88B is THE IG-88 from Empire Strikes Back.

Needed to check that, thanks. Once Punishing One and Mist Hunter come out, I was hoping to figure out 50-ish point builds for each of them so I can mix and match - the bounty hunters do make for a nice 'space western' feel to Star Wars.

And yeah..... IG-2000 is a brilliant ability, but at the same time, IG-88B is hardly a bad ship solo, and one of the other bounty hunters can cover his weaknesses better.

I am going to give this configuration a shot tonight, as I can see the reasoning behind your suggestions. However, giving up an R4 likely means less hits, and a naked Palob without a stack of focus and that dial, I worry might die too fast. I will report back on how it goes.

That is why not^

Autothrusters Poe is not a problem for your TLTs if they have R4 Agromech. It takes practice to get the hang of WHEN you should spend your tokens because the target lock comes AFTER the focus, not before, but this is definitely the way to go. Palob will have issue damaging Poe, and if Poe is an issue, you won't ever touch Interceptors or Phantoms.

Someone mentioned "a 56 point Scum Super Dash"- what is that?

but when you keep your TL from previous turn, use it, spend focus, put second TL and then let out a maniacal scream because it can sometimes make a huge impact.

or not.

because unless you get 3\3 poe will evade you

because with his ability and AT getting 2\2 is too simple.

he has to roll TWO BLANKS or TWO FOCUSES to take damage from average attack.

and you need him to do it twice in a turn because 1 damage will be restored either by focus-eating droid or R2D2

your average rolls don't bother him in any way, and you only have 2 agromechs in YYYY list maximum. maybe if you replace one Y with a cheap one-shot HWK you'll stick 3 AGGROmechs, but can't say it's worth it.

Yep, poe is like master chef.

Is a pretty col guy eh eats TLTs and doesn't afraid of anything

4Ys isn't the list we are talking about though. With a Crackshot, HLC Bro and 2 TLT R4s, I do not really fear Poe. The things I have struggled against have been things with 4 Green Dice and modifiers (Fel with token stack and SJ Kallus Whisper). On average, Poe is taking 1 dmg from each TLT, and some from the Brobot if I focus on him. He'll last about 2 turns. I was more thinking of trying the HWK for Soontir and Phantoms, as it would make getting into the donut more dangerous which is where they tend to pick me apart. Still, I think Engine25 has the right of it, that I am going to miss my white 3 banks and the consistency that R4 gets me over stealing tokens with a ship that has 3 less health. I still intend to give a try tonight and see how it goes.

I don't see how Palob would have a problem damaging Poe. He can combo his stolen focus with a TL, and stealing Poe's focus should help your other ships do damage. Stealing Poe's focus also neuters his damage output.

poe with stolen focus IS priceless, I totally agree.

especially if he's not R2D2 but is a fan of focus-eating droid instead
