Rebels trailers has a new kind of Tie Fighter

By Olethros, in X-Wing

It's a minor variation because it makes them visually distinct without having to completely remodel the ship, which is expensive.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. The Imperial faction does not need yet another low Attack, low HP, high Agility, and nimble ship. It has been done to death. The only real game-changing ship they could get would be a TIE with a turret (either as a primary weapon or upgrade) that is cheap and spammable. I mean the TIE, TIE f/o, TIE Advanced, TIE Interceptor, and TIE Defender are all variations on the same basic ship concept. All are nimble with good dials and a good Agility. They only really vary on the number of shields and Attack dice with some upgrade variations.

The dials vary hugely amongst those ships. All the ship in this game is a base size, statline, dial and set of upgrade slots.

All the Imperial small ships apart from the bombers are Agility 3 and they all have Barrel Roll bar the Punisher (which trades it for boost). That's the end of their broad similarities when it comes to mechanics.

OK guys and girls - you know the drill. The last one to slice their TIE panels off with an X-ACTO knife and paint them yellow gets the drinks in!

I hope they are just Training Ties, or somthing like that.

Aside from novelizations (which don't always align with what's seen), the dogfights do seem a bit WW2-ish.

That video is misnamed. Lucas admitted that he used films like The Dam Busters as inspiration for the dogfighting in Star Wars.

Has anyone come to the conclusion that maybe these are TIE speeders? Used mainly for planetary/atmospheric flying, where improving the peripheral vision would be required. It would also go a long ways as to why the fighters have a yellowish-green coloring if they were stationed somewhere on say a swamp-like planet.

Heh. Star Wars' is much more thrilling.

Looks TIE Vanguard-y. It's not (no sensor suite, wings aren't super bent or anything), but it looks similar.

Might be more of a GM Powered or Desert Zaku type variant than an actual "new" TIE.

You know it could be a tie/trainer. extra panels removed to reduce power output to safe levels/give extra visibility. Kinda makes sense.

Almost like a Canon version of the Light Duty TIE? If that's the case, I hope it's a Title rather than it's own ship.

It could be that for the trailer the artist got the wrong model and forgot to render it right.

Well, it does show up again in the trailer.

I'm going to guess no from the above image.

Huh, look at that. It's got a little caution grid on it.

I don't think this thing's main purpose is combat.

maybe it's job dosen't require as much solar power as a standerd tie.

Well we know they're most likely a scum ship now.

Yay... TIE/scum which means we are one step closer to ugly TIES

I guess I need to bust out the exacto knife and some yellow paints.

Those Yellow Tie's certainly do stand out.

and its a good excuse to start cutting up and repainting some more models !

But im sure it wont take long before FFG consider releasing them for X wing.

A new tool and mold for the solar wings, and then glued to a standard tie body and they have a new model.

and as some have said on here,

could be excellent if they were infact Scum,

would make for some interesting new Cards.

Rebels is moving along nicely, I personally prefer it to Jar Jar's Force Awakens ! :P

All the best,

Barry.

Why is the heat turned off on the Ghost? Did Hera forget to pay the electric bill?

Is it just me, or did the lighting/shading get 1000x better this season? Everything looked so bland in S1.

It looked like they were either

A) Trying not to spook the space whales by having a large, powered-up, freighter so close to them or

II) Trying to hide in the asteroid field and shutting off their systems so they couldn't be scanned.

Edit: grammar

These new TIEs probably have MUCH better visibility, considering the panels removed, are precisely where the pilot would have vision obstructed on the left and right side.

Betting that if this ship makes it to the game, it'll have a wider than standard front-arc.

That's how animated shows go. If you watch season 1 of The Clone Wars compared to seasons 5 and 6 the difference is astounding.

The TIE's in this show look like utter ****. Like comparing 5th edition 40k to 4th. Ugh.
