Channel Boba Fett with this ‘Star Wars’-inspired ballistic body armor

By mouthymerc, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

The geek in me loves, the infantryman in me hates it...

Fun, although I'd hate to have allergies or an itchy nose....

Yeah I saw this on FB and thought it looked cool. I wonder how much it all cost to make.

Were this for a film or game it would be cool. As I have an abhorrence to actual violence, it makes me sick. The only thing a gun should be fired at is a paper target. Sadly, the need otherwise does creep up.

I don't know to make but the sale price is 325 USD.

(Gasp) Mandalorian armor! If it existed in our world!

It does make one think of sadly unnecessary violence, though.

I always find it interesting when two hobbies collide like this. Movie armor always looks so cool, where as real functioning armor has all that weight and protection never looks as cool as it does in the movies. I can't but shudder at how much that set of armor weighs. If they're using steel plates you're looking at at least 10 lbs a piece for front and back. A fully ballistic helmet made of steel would be uncomfortable to say the least.

I have to concur with a "cousin" with the Mandalorian Mercenaries, to which I'll paraphrase here;

"This is a horrible, horrible idea. Thanks, jackwagons; now I'm one gun-happy-psychopathic-incident away from not being able to wear my harmless Mandaloiran costume anywhere."

Even without this he's in the same boat should someone do that in Stormtrooper or other costume armor.

There are already some law enforcement agencies who look askance at any outfit that obscures the face, and in some jurisdictions it's illegal to be in public in a mask that hides one's identity.

There shouldn't be anything wrong with wearing a mask. Only refusing to remove it while talking to police should be an issue. But, lawmakers don't have an ounce of common sense amongst them.

I hope it protects better than star wars armor.

To that I say "good luck".

Luke wasn't kidding when he said "I can't see anything in this helmet!" Nevermind having the mobility to actually aim a weapon and shoot it. Stormtrooper armor looks great, but you can't move or see in it for crap. I assure you.

That's made for a look. This...this is made for a different look too; it screams "grab your M4 Carbine and hunt someone". Just look at the previous comments above.

It's also made for Airsoft... no surprise.

(that's not an airsoft dig, by the way...)

That will never get built for the 'real world,' and even if it did, it wouldn't do too much, by the look of it.

I would love to see this made for paintball. Or even just the helmet! After I seen it I posted on Milsig Direct asking if Nelson would make it.

I like the new drum mag they have out. I wish it was for the full size mags and not the stark but hey... it works.

Should work fine for Paintball as it covers the face.

The website describes the armor as being made of "ballistic plates". I highly doubt they made this out of Level IV rated rifle plates.

I don't see how/when this would actually be used. There are two reasons to dress up in "battle armor". One is part of a costume. In which case, I want it to be comfortable, light weight, and look cool. I don't want it to weigh a ton, cut into me, wear blisters, and be hard to breath in just because of the weight on my chest. The second reason to wear it is of course to protect yourself because you believe you may be in combat. Comfort, weight, and look-coolness then takes a back seat to protection and usefulness. Small slitted visor to look through? No. Cool looking plates with large gaps of no protection between them? No. Recessed areas in the armor to catch bullets? No.

Unless you are planning on attending costume parties in such places as Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, or Somalia, I don't see a niche for this.
