No new ships...what would you think/do?

By Plainsman, in X-Wing

I'd continue to happily play with what I had down at my FLGS as long as there was a player base.

We need moar Scum. period.

TEH GLORIOUS SPACE PIRATE MERCENARY FACTION knows no boundaries!

I agree, Skipray, Dunelizard, etc. Huge Scum ships would also be nice!

For the Empire. The requested Tie Variants are a possbility, but please ask yourselves if they really still could fit a niche in the game or just be another TAP or Advanced.

I am very sceptical for the Gunboat. We have exclusively Ties as small shipd so far and FFG seems to not be willing to consider anything else so far.

I would be SO HAPPY! The game is starting to get really bloated.

Having said that, rather than no more waves, I'd prefer a reboot which builds all the 'fixes' directly into the core rules and addresses some of the core problems with the rules (and secretly I'd like a few thematic issues addressed). I think there's going to be a good deal of room for future releases in the new movies, but I really think the design space left in the game is about tapped out. One of the biggest draws of X Wing is the way it's always been complex without being complicated, but as we add more and more upgrades the upgrades themselves become more complex, and the interactions between them become much more so. A reboot would do wonders for the game.

And further, I think X Wing campaign supplements would be totally ace. A booklet featuring a campaign and maybe some stand-alone missions (that would be balanced for pick-up games)and some upgrades and models featured in the campaign, would be absolutely awesome. Something like Heroes of the Arturi Cluster, but with some ships and new pilot cards and upgrades included. Awesome.

I can see why people like the idea of a 'complete' game, but personally, so long as they continue to output high quality, balanced, and interesting ships (which they've more than managed so far) I hope they keep making it. More diversity is always good if done well, and there's a lot of fun to be had with the hype, speculation, and anticipation that surrounds each new wave.

I don't care if I've never heard of any of the ships, or even if they started making new ones from scratch. So long as they feel Star Wars and look good on the table (and lets face it, if they can make the K-Wing look awesome, they can make anything look great) I'm all for it.

Mel's would be set for life.

Or Gozric

... I generally like his taken on SW stuff better but Mel's stuff is still pretty awesome.

I NEED a Ravenclaw and an ARC 170, until then my ship list is not complete, the imperial gunboat also sounds nice. Lucky for me I have quite a satiable apetite when it comes to ships

IF FFG made an announcement stating there would be no new ships after Wave 8,

would you feel the game was complete?

No.

Would you have access to all the ships you want/need?

No.

If not, which ships would you need to see added?

I think a few popular ones may have already been mentioned, but take a look at the first link in my signature if you're running short on ideas. Certainly there's room in the game for at least half a dozen more small and large ships for each faction, plus two Scum Epic ships. At least. And that's before anything that TV series like Rebels and the new Star Wars films introduce in the future.

And would you request a Wave 9 in order to get those ships that aren't available?

If FFG officially announced that they weren't going to support the X-Wing Miniatures Game past ave 8 (a completely ridiculous notion by the way, considering it's their top selling product and it's player base is still growing) I don't see what good "requesting a Wave 9" would do. Generally when a company makes a decision, they stick by it.

Of course, an announcement like that would free me up to purchase whatever I liked from third parties, so I'd still be spending money on the game.. just not with FFG.

Really need a huge Scum ship

I think the following are a bare minimum before the end.

Missile Boat

Assault Gunboat

Tie Avenger

Skipray Blastboat

At that point I would accept an end to new ships, not demand, but accept. Until those 4 are released they better keep going though.

I would be torn if they were to announce that they were done after the next wave or two.

On the one hand, each of their releases, so far, has had something that I was really excited about, that's surprised me, and they've managed to do a great job of keeping things fresh, so I would be sorry to see that go. Even ships that I don't care for aesthetically contribute new tricks and gimmicks that make them worthwhile.

Also, there are enough ships out there that we can coast along with what's available for a long time to come, I think, and fan-generated content would continue.

That being said, shifting gears to campaign packages and terrain sets would be a welcome addition, as well.

On the OTHER hand, of course, if they closed the books on X-Wing, I could go back to buying REGULAR crack instead of all this plastic crack. :)

(I don't expect they'll quit anytime soon, though. 2.0 for sure would be on the horizon before they just shut down their biggest money-maker. I can only hope they produce a conversion set like they did for Descent when that happens so we don't lose too much ground.)

...if they can make the K-Wing look awesome, they can make anything look great...

Except that the K-Wing looks like absolute crap and doesn't look at all like it belongs in Star Wars. Plus, the ship came from a critically-reamed book trilogy that took place a looong time after RotJ.

Honestly, as one of the old-school (i.e., older people who actually saw all of the OT in the theater) fans around here? I could absolutely do without dredging up the most obscure EU lore ... and then having some designer at FFG try to fit it into the game.

And I do not understand the need for a TIE Avenger when we already have the TIE Advanced. According to those (insanely awesome!) X-Wing/TIE Fighter/X-Wing Alliance PC games, it's the same ship. The game designers just cut little sections out of the solar panels. That's all.

...although I would have liked to see the "fix" for the TIE Advanced in a set that wouldn't set me back $60-100, especially since it comes with another goofy, made-by-FFG mini-Destroyer that I would never use.

Anyway, I literally only want to see the Imperial Assault Gunboat. For those of us who played those X-Wing/TIE Fighter games? It was a huge part of the experience ... and **** near iconic. It's a shame FFG has passed on the Gunboat for so long in favor of some of the other stuff the company has released.

But after that Assault Gunboat arrives? Yeah, it would be nice to think FFG just looks to TFA and beyond...

I'm still waiting for a Shuttle Tyderium mechanic where I can play a stolen Lambda for the Rebels on the new Death Star II mat.

Mels, Starship modeller and i'd learn how to use strange eons.

Until Scum has 2 huge.

Until I can fly Flights of XG1s.

Games not done.

Strange Aeons is really, really simple. Which reminds me, I need to go back and redo my Azzameen Family cards, now that Scum & Villany exists...

Well, I guess the K-Wing looking awesome is a matter of opinion, but so is your assertion that it looks awful and does not belong in Star Wars. There's no doubt that some of the art from EU sources for it is a bit lackluster, but I think FFG did a great job with the sculpt, and I think many here would agree with me. Also, it looks perfectly 'Star Wars' to my eye. It's a purely subjective statement to say either way, and therefore not really worth arguing. And yeah, timeline wise it doesn't make much sense, but then all of that EU is now non-canon anyway, so it's largely irrelevant. For all we know, in the new timeline, the K-Wing was made and in use around the time of the Rebellion.

I don't see how FFG continuing to release models hurts anyone. If you don't care for EU ships and have no interest in playing them, fine. Don't buy them. No one is forcing you. The only reason you would 'need' to get the new packs is if the ships or upgrades that come with them are extremely useful for tournament play, but then if you're playing at a competitive level, I think it's unlikely that you'd be avoiding certain ships because they don't 'feel Star Wars'.

There is no doubt that FFG will release anything and everything related to Force Awakens and the subsequent films. So with that in mind, if they release EU stuff too, that can only be a good thing. If you don't like them, then enjoy saving some money, and don't make the purchase.

Do any of you think we will see Starkiller from the force unleashed in a ship?

Do any of you think we will see Starkiller from the force unleashed in a ship?

I actually kinda do.

It's there, it's known. More unique ships (as in one of a kind in universe) have been released.

You're kidding me, we missed that?

No new ships guess I would buy more Tanks for Tanks! the World War II skirmish game by GF9 and get both the Normandy and Kursk playmats. Think X-Wing with Tanks.

You're kidding me, we missed that?

Yup. I'm longing for the day I can actually start striking through some of the ships on the list...

Go back in time, start the list then.

A good few have been struck off. Jumpmaster and mist hunter for example.

Mel's would be set for life.

Or Gozric

... I generally like his taken on SW stuff better but Mel's stuff is still pretty awesome.

I much prefer Gozric's sleeker looking TIE Avengers, but I'm put off by the lack of detail on the panels.
