Tomax Bren Explored

Can you Crackshot the same attack twice with Bren?

Can you Crackshot the same attack twice with Bren?

Potentially, but since you can only get it back once per turn, after doing this it would be gone forever.

Can you Crackshot the same attack twice with Bren?

I think that would run afoul of the "Once per opportunity" rule, but it's one for the FAQs.

However, as his ability clearly states "Once per round, after you discard," you need to be very careful about how you execute this. If you use Crackshot twice in a round (using Cluster Missiles), I would assume that it's gone for the rest of the game. You can't flip it up after the second attack, and it'll already have been discarded in subsequent rounds so you can't discard it again.

Bombers are freaking awesome now

And I believe fleet officer found a home on the scimitar for couple of reasons. Last night I tried this for the first time (tweaked from a previous build)

I had fleet officer on one of my scimitar

With this I was able to give vessery two focuses.

One using fleet officer

A second with his action.

This made hitting Vader with the tractor beam much more deadly with vessery (plus crackshot) and was able to move Vader into range 1 of two of my bombers with 1 less agility and Vader died fast.

After the game I realized another good use for fleet officer

If I am against the dreaded stressbot he'll likely want to target vessery. Since he's my only ace.

Let's say he does, well fleet officer will still give him his focus and he can still use ability.

If my opponent decides to target a scimitar with fleet officer instead, well that leaves vessery alone

I think this veteran pack is a massive boost to both bombers and Defenders.

Haven't seen the other defender pilots yet but I still think vessery will be hard to top. His ability works great if you have a lot of target lock capability.

Which is why I went with 3 bombers with the tie shuttle option. Tractor beam also makes it easier for the bombers to hit since they only have 2 red dice

But you know I'm loving the ideas Sable has come up with for tomax. I haven't put much thought into him but man, what a frigging awesome pilot.

The ability to keep 1 time use elite abilities is strong

There are some really good options.

I like them all. Hard to decide which I'd like to go with.

Adrenaline rush looks really cool with missles or bombs.

Be fun to do a kturn right in front of my opponent and drop a prox mine in front of him and if he survived end up flying past.

So many options already in such a diverse meta.

Glad to see things shake up the way they have.

And thank the Lord the two ship meta has calmed down some

Was getting tired of hearing about Han and his fat ass

It may very well be worth burning Crackshot to get more hits though on the second attack from Cluster Missiles if that takes a ship off the board.

Cool Hand

Cool Hand is an upgrade that I’ve struggled to find a good home for. For one point, when you acquire a stress token, the upgrade can be discarded to give the ship a Focus or Evade token. Now, thanks to Tomax Bren, it finally has a home. Take, for instance, the following:

Tomax Bren (24)

Cool Hand (1)

Fleet Officer (3)

Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

TIE Shuttle (0)

Total: 29

Tomax Bren takes a one-shot EPT and makes it usable once per turn. Fleet Officer allows Tomax to take an action that allows him to select two friendly ships at Range 1-2 and assign them each a focus token. He can select himself as one of those ships. However, Fleet officer gives Tomax a stress token. Tomax can then trigger Cool Hand to give himself a focus token, which he may already have from Fleet Officer, or an Evade Token, which the TIE Bomber cannot naturally get. The TIE MK2 turns 1 Bank and 3 Bank green, giving the ship 9 green maneuvers to clear the stress. With the generous greens on the TIE Bomber dial, it is quite capable of clearing stress. This build is 29 points.

When put all together, Tomax can move, then gain a Stress, a Focus, an Evade, and give a friendly ship a focus token as well. Tomax can then clear stress with any bank or forward maneuver of speed 1, 2, of 3. If you seek to make a ordnance list, he could easily give two other ships a focus token as well as give one to himself. The support options are quite potent, making Tomax in this configuration quite the support craft.

I know that this article is about ways to use Bren, but if you are using loadout as support for an ordnance using squad you probably would have been better off with this for less points:

Captain Jonus (22)
Wired (1)
Fleet Officer (3)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE Shuttle (0)
Total: 27
The 2 points you save can go into other ships or to give Jonus something like Intel Agent or Tactician for added utility.

Loving that Cool Hand/Fleet Officer combo. You could even throw an Intel Officer on board for one point, if you have it to spare.

Heck, he could even assign both focus tokens to himself, giving him the full Soontir Stack for those cases where he's found himself in R1 of the target.

Fleet officer says to choose 2 ships and assign "A" focus token to both. You can't give both tokens to one ship.

I don't think that's what he means. You give one focus each to yourself and an ally, and get a Focus or Evade from the Stress from Fleet Officer due to Cool Hand.

Otherwise, it doesn't work that way.

i feel like max-crax is going to be fun in imperial 4-ship.

something like

Tomax Bren (24)

Crack Shot (1)
Tactician (2)
TIE Shuttle (0)
The Inquisitor (25)
Adaptability (+1) (0)
Autothrusters (2)
TIE/v1 (1)
"Omega Leader" (21)
Juke (2)
Comm Relay (3)
"Howlrunner" (18)
Adaptability (+1) (0)
Total: 99
go to mauler/scourge, thread tracers, 1 pt epts or initiative bid to taste

Forgottenlore was right to correct me. For some reason, I was thinking that you could select yourself twice with Fleet Officer.

I'll just have to live with a very specific version of PTL for 4 points that also gives a focus to a friend.

I'm also curious if the creation of Bren means we'll never see a single-use EPT that costs more than 1 point. Such an EPT would have to be very powerful to justify the single use, but could also be pretty broken in his hands.

OP the cleverness of your post is somewhat overshadowed for me by that picture. WHEN IN BUGGERNUTS WERE TIE BOMBER TRANSFORMERS EVER A THING HOW DID I MISS THIS.

You can still find them online.

I think the funniest one is the falcon that splits into Han and Chewie. The AAT to B1 battle droid and the V-wing to clone pilot also look pretty cool.

I've been building a lot with him in mind. I really do like him as a "tanky control" ship. Lots of room left to play with too as long as you're not going too crazy with missiles and torps (bombs... don't think you can ever have too many bombs)...

Is he an Experimental Interface target with fleet officer with EpiLeader or Yorr or other de-stressing wingmate?

Heh heh, you say this as if I didn't INSTANTLY go to Amazon to check if they're still around. Bwahahaha.

Seriously though I'm probably gonna get one.

Does he have a twin brother named Xamot ?

I went crazy and bought all the various transformers clone wars ships because the size reminded me of the old Action Fleet and, you know, they were transformers. The TIE Bomber is by far my favorite. The only other TIE they made was the advanced that turned into (surprise) Vader. The ETA -2 was also re colored into imperial colors for Vader but I had already gotten the Obi Wan version and wasn't exactly impressed with it. There were ALOT of repaints and resculps and I was tempted but only bought any particular model once. If they had made Cad Bane with his hat I would have bought that fighter twice though. (It took forever for hasbro to give Applejack her hat too). Anyway I've got way too many clone wars vehicles that turn into clones and a few Jedi, but they are cool.

Yes he will be a punisher pilot in Imp Aces 3, even Ace-ier.

Clicked link to squadron builder. Jar Jar on my screen. Well done, sir.

Don't worry. I wasn't Rick Jar Jar rolling you.

Just as posted, my database server crashed, and wasn't back up for hours. Bad timing, huh?

Normal service is now resumed, anyway.

are we to expect the Sienar Test Pilot TAP anytime soon?

Tomax is brutal. I already played him as ordnance carrier and multiple crackshots are king!

If only he could carry a Tractor Beam...

I would think Rec Spec could find a home on the new bomber. I think running Tomax+Crack+Recspec would make him hard hitting and pretty tanky for not a big investment of 28.

are we to expect the Sienar Test Pilot TAP anytime soon?

Has that been spoiled?

Yes, 16 points.

17 pts for a Sienar Test Pilot w/ V1? Man....that's really good. I really want to see the middle generic.
