Prox mines

If a prox mine is dropped under multiple ships do all the ships roll for damage or just one?

From the FAQ pg. 13:

If a ship drops a Proximity Mine so that it overlaps
multiple ships, the player dropping the bomb chooses
which ship suffers the effects of the Proximity Mine
detonating.

If a prox mine is dropped under multiple ships do all the ships roll for damage or just one?

As per the FAQ entry quoted above. Note that the Proximity Mine is detonated by only one of those ships, damage rolls are made and the token is removed. This means there's no damage rolls to any other ships that may have been on the token when it detonates. Although it has a large token, it's effect is limited to just one ship. It's not an area effect or blast-radius type weapon.

i really don't get this rule as it being an explosion if multiple ships are in the area of the explosion it doesn't magically get directed to a single ship. Multiple ships are in the blast radius so multiple ships should be hit by the blast its pretty simple i don't know why they ruled it like this. This is basic physics.

Balance trumps all. Proxies are already capable of killing any 3-health or less ship outright; we don't need them being able to do it to multiple ships at once.

If it helps, imagine the mine has limited maneuverability and sensors, and moves towards any ships that it detects in its area before detonating.

But yeah, they work that way because they say they work that way. It's not even a ruling, the reference card has always been pretty clear about the number of ships that take damage.

You will find many things in this game that don't make a lot of sense. :)

Actually, that is EXACTLY how it works.

The Proximity Mine is dropped as has a detection area as shown by its template. The actual mine is much smaller and homes in on any ship that passes through its detection zone. In the case where it appears to be dropped such that multiple ships are in the zone it is directed at one of those ships and ignores the others.

When viewed this way the proxy mine makes perfect sense. It is those little bomb tokens that detonate without regard to targets and may catch multiple ships with damage.

A Conner net, on the other hand. You should be able to catch a lot of fish.

Conner net detects the first ship that touches it and discharges all its ions into that ship. It then runs out of ions.

It's really easy to explain apparently slightly weird mechanics if you don't assume anything a priori about how they work.
