New to game - question

By Mysma Hachi, in X-Wing

So, I'm brand new to the game, and reading through a lot of posts, I notice there is a lot of slang used. I'm assuming it all relates to ship cards and upgrades, but most of them I don't understand.

Does there happen to be a post or sticky somewhere with a list of what the commonly used slang and shorthand mean? Or will I just have to pick it up as I play games at my local hobby store?

Thanks ahead for any help!

These are the ones I know

pwt = primary weapon turret

tlt = twin laser turret

hlc = heavy laser cannon

ptl = push the limit

kturn = koroigran turn

sloop = segnors loop

troll = talon roll

ps = pilot skill

EPT = the medal upgrade slot

stressbot = r3-a2

you can look them up on the wiki,

hope this helps ;)

At this point, there probably should be!

Other popular:

AT - Autothrusters

IA - Integrated Astromech

EU - Engine Upgrade

SD - Stealth Device

HU - Hull Upgrade

FCS - Fire Control System

VI - Veteran Instinct

Edited by Stone37

prockets - proton rockets

clusterdusters - cluster missiles

hossiles - homing missiles

assiles - assault missiles

dbl devils - two yv-666 build currently dominating the meta

meta - the game outside the game within the game

howlin wolf - howlrunner + lone wolf

horn dog - corran horn + lone wolf

chewbo - turtlin' chewie + leebo build that will probably win multiple regionals this year

turtlin' - could mean lots of things

triflers - 3 k-wing + tactician build that is not cool

turretention - any store night where you have to play multiple four tlt builds

dbl devils - two yv-666 build currently dominating the meta

Very funny.

These are the ones I know

...

kturn = koroigran turn

That would be Koiogran Turn, or K-Turn. Not sure where the "r" comes from ...

Fettigator = Imperial Boba Fett in a Firespray with navigator crew card - Very fun to fly btw. :D

oops idk

meta - the game outside the game within the game

A better definition is, "In a game with a shifting game play style, 'meta' is the current style of game play."

Dropped a duece = flew a ps 2 swarm list.

The ole 69er= Moralo eval and talonbane cobra 2 ship build.

Electric space nuts = feedback array z95s intentionally flown onto asteroids

Dirty doggin= running illegal upgrades in a tournament setting

Dirty doggin with a twist= running illegal upgrades in a tournament setting and convincing the TO its legit

Rocking the exhaust=blasting a large based ship from behind with an assile

Interesting. I've been here for years and not only do I not know what those mean I think this may also be my first time seeing any of them.

Fat Han: Usually Han Solo with the C-3PO upgrade and possibly more. A "Fat X" is generally used to refer to any X that may be harder to take down that usual.

Swarm: I'll say it is usually a squadron running 5 or more ships which often share a ship type.

Fortress: Sometimes used to denote a squad which is set up to cause overlaps with its own ships resulting in no net movement of the ships. A "Point Fortress" is a tournament concept where an expensive ship that is hard to bring down, especially in some time period, is used to 'protect' points helping a player get a win or at least maximize their MoV in a loss.

Block/Blocking: Moving a ship into a position where another ship is very likely to try to move.

Bump: The shorthand notation for when a ship overlaps another ship and sometime used when it overlaps an obstacle.

Touching: The state a ship is in after bumping another ship. The only way to touch is to bump but other things may leave you physically adjacent.

[boom] or [hit] = filled in explosion symbol on a red die

[kaboom] [kablam] or [crit] = open explosion symbol

Both of these are sometimes used to avoid confusion of what a "hit" actually is in the game. An attack only "hits" if an effect (Lt. Blount) says it does or if there are still boom and/or kaboom dice results left after the results are compared to defense dice.

Hey rebel scumbags i thought of some more jargon we hear when we're dicing on the shipyards:

Outer rim bunglers = bros or chicks who netlist squads but can't handle the power of their interactions.

Stuck in the bunghole = losing to an outer rim bungler

PWT=ridiculously overpowered game design where some ships are allowed to shoot all the way around their base (like out of a movie!) that has destroyed the game and contributed to its ultimate decline when released in the initial wave.

Binary overload = attempts by some players to reconcile the pwt mechanics with their own play style by drawing imagined distinctions between ships that have the ability. Generally overloads the logic mainframe of the calculating player causing immediate network crash.

Magellan = pilot who pompously lays claim to a particular combination of upgrades as his/her own design under the illusion that no other pilot has considered the combination

Lapu lapu= warrior who defeats Magellan with a perceived inferior combination of upgrades

Still had all these zs = relentlessly forcing an opponent to roll defense dice for a series of attacks that have been rendered moot after his/her last ship was removed from the game to "see what may have happened". Generally only in play when offending player has tabled the opposing pilot.

Fly casual = slogan coopted by aggro power gamers to discourage newbs from playing by an accurate interpretation of the rules.

The hate is strong with this one ^

I also wanted to share some unique build and list ideas that are on the cusp of dominating the mega game:

Stimbot shocker: aggressor with glitterstim and feedback

Heat scyker: cartel spacer with title and hossile

The outer rim mule: spice runner with glitterstim and outlaw tech

Howling vipers dilemma: Xizor with lone wolf, stealth, virago, jammer, cloaking device

Pirate booty: drea with tlt, em, eu, bomb loadout, proton bombs, r4b11 and Kath with ptl, hlc, prox mines, k4, and eu

Two pump chump: double devils w/hlc, tactician, maneuvering fins, gunner and a binarye pirate
