does the force power Protect and other soak from Brawn & Armor stack?

Or is it just the higher one that is used?

Seems like if they stack it is very powerful... easy to get a Soak of 9-10 or more...

It is a Force rating 3 power though so it is a powerful one...

Protect doesn't give you soak. It just reduces reduces the damage, similar to Reflect and Parry talents. So yeah, it stacks. The trade off is that if you use it, you are not attacking.

Also it loses a lot of power if you use dark side pips, so you are open to a bad force roll.

Yes, they would combine. So a PC with 3 ranks in Reflect and a soak value of 4 would pretty much be able to ignore any ranged attack that did 9 damage or less.

However remember that Parry, Reflect, and the Protect power all come with costs that needs to be paid in order to use that ability.

In the case of Parry and Reflect, not only do you need to spend XP to purchase those talents, but you've got to pay 3 strain per attack to use them.

For Protect, at just the base power (which itself requires a Force Rating of 3 or better to obtain), you're only reducing the damage of a single attack of a specific type. It takes a decent investment of XP to be able to use the power against multiple attacks, and even then you're banking on the enemies targeting you in favor of your less-squishy teammates. You also need to invest in Discipline, which is an additional cost (though not an extreme one as most PCs that focus on Force usage tend to invest in that skill anyway).

yes it stacks.

9 is the base damage of a riffle so a competant mercenary can easely damage you even if it would take him more time to drop you.
