Rey (Force Awakens Spoilers- (do we still need the warning?))

By Vestij Jai Galaar, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

As I said earlier, the fetish for making every new character a blood relative of an existing character reminds me of a certain sort of bad fanfic.

"Here's my Harry Potter story, original character is secret son of Draco and Hermione from another reality caused by time turner misuse."

:huh:<_<:wacko::unsure::blink:

How can Rey '...fly anything...' if she's been stuck on that planet? Hopefully, we'll see an EXTENSIVE flashback showing her flight training, OR is this JJ's/the writer's/Disney's interpretation how the force works (if it is, IMO it sucks)?

(apologies because I reckon someone has already posted this)

Sadly, it's in line with Little Annie in TPM just jumping in whatever and piloting it...

Grumble.

This is a significant plot point in her short story in Before the Awakening.... It would seem books are now required reading for full context in the movies...

Double post.

If they actually told the story of the movie, including all the character development, within the movie itself, then how would they drive cross-media profit synergy and maximize their return on the acquisition of the IP from Lucas?

$£$£$£ Kerching.. It would have made a better plot line if Finn had jumped in the pilot's seat and said 'Erm.... I know the basics of flying a shuttle from the Academy. I'll give it a go!'

But then again it makes Rey the (female) lead in most of Ep VII

I'm expecting a "Disney Princesses: Rey" stationery line in time for the new school term

That's going to cause some confusion for the artists who are doing "Disney princesses as Jedi" fan art...

My theory about Rey is that she isn't a Skywalker, or a Solo, or a Kenobi ... or maybe it's more that I don't want her to be. =)

As far as the "family" lightsaber calling to her and hence she has to be a Skywalker could be explained away by the kyber crystal in Luke's/Anakin's lightsaber sensing the Force Awakening inside of Rey and her connection to Luke through her dreams of the ocean and island. It wants to be returned to Luke and uses Rey to do it. From her vision, I believe she was there when Kylo wiped Luke's pupils ... one of which was Rey or Rey "just" arrived to witness it. I dunno ... that's just a guess. The Force within her probably blocked all of it out until she touched the lightsaber or the Force gave her that vision because she's SO strong with it already. A Chosen One like Anakin. Maybe. But, definitely someone with a tremendous enough connection with the Force to change the course of the galaxy.

One thing I don't want to happen is a "Rey, I am your father" moment at the end of the second movie in this trilogy like the end of Empire Strikes Back. We've already had the first movie here start on a desert planet and end with a trench run ... again. =)

Anger really DOES cloud peoples judgement. Is it really that hard to think that she could actually have been taught how to pilot/drive by someone? The same way she learned to speak the wookie and droid languages. She idolizes pilots, by the wearing of the flight helmet and homemade doll.

Do people have such lack of imagination going into a film that they need every thing spelled out? Or is this truly a case of trying to nitpick for the sake of nitpicking?

As to the force, it clearly DOES work like that based on every single film. The force guides a Jedi's hand so they can deflect blaster bolts. Luke was a great pilot, but we don't see it in the film, they just give him an x-wing.

WHERE??? I didn't spot those! :o ... and I've seen it a few times! :o ... Could you post some pics etc ;)

Didn't Shmi Skywalker (anakin's mother) get married to a lars, who says she didn't have enough midichlorians leftover in her uterus that her next child was also force sensitive... and a Skywalker bloodline, Rey could be that child's grand daughter

Whu?

Basically anakin could have had a half brother or half sister, and Rey could be the grand child of that half sibling. Midichlorians are like mitochondria that use the force... anakin was supposedly conceived by Midichlorians, and there were probably a lot of leftovers after anakin was born that a next child would have absorbed... even if he or she never learned to use the force, he or she could have passed them down to their child and therefore grandchild

I'm of the opinion that Rey is Anakin reincarnated. Anakin never really fulfilled the prophecy of the chosen one, so it makes more sense to have him reborn.

My personal theory is that she is a legacy family that hasn't shown up on film yet. We're going to get a handful of new characters in Rogue One - Rey's mother/father/parents will be one of those x-wing parents. We won't find out during Rogue One, of course, we'll just get to know the group.

Then, during episode VIII, we'll find out which of those pilots Rey has been waiting for.

If that is indeed a First Order troop transport (and I think it is!), he's the most obvious culprit.

You're right. And it's something I realized long after writing that post.

Sigh everyone knows Rey is Darth Vader and Yoda's secret love child from when Yoda was playing with the youngling's light sabers.

Actually, Rey is Boba Fett and Captain Phasma's daughter.

SEE, SEE, IT ALL MAKES SENSE! SEE?

Seriously, though, I think the ship we see leaving Jakku in the vision looks a lot like the quad-jumper she wanted to steal. What do you all make of that? Do we have an idea of how common or otherwise those ships are? Really, the Force vision brings up a LOT more questions than anything else IMO.
