Card commands question

By fvbyfv, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

At the start of my turn if I reveal a command do I have to choose whether to use the command as standard or do I have to choose to use a cards ability? Do I get to use both with the single command?

Example?

Aha, I see what the question entails.

IF an upgrade card says say, "Navigate: You can do this" - You don't do that instead of the Command. You do that ON TOP OF the Command, unless the upgrade card specifically says "Instead".

It could be, for example: Repair, with Projection Experts.

"Repair : You may spend up to 2 engineering points to move that many shields from your ship to a friendly ship at distance 1-5."

So, you flip your dial over, and your Dial says Repair, so you elect to Spend that Dial.

When you do so, the Repair command happens, which does the following:

◊ Dial: Gain engineering points equal to the ship’s engineering value and spend them on the following repair effects.

+ Move Shields : Spend one point to move one shield by reducing one of the ship’s hull zone’s shield dials by one and then increasing another of its hull zone’s shields by one (without exceeding its maximum shield value).

+ Recover Shields : Spend two points to recover one shield on any of the ship’s hull zones (without exceeding its maximum shield value).

+ Repair Hull: Spend three points to choose and discard one of the ship’s faceup or facedown damage cards.

However, as you also have the Card Projection Experts, the Rules text on Projection Experts is added to the Options you have, rather than Replacing those options.

Ahhh, I see. The Command is a requirement to use the Card Abilities, but it does not preclude use of the Command benefits.

Yep. Just like Engine Techs - you can change your speed, increase yaw value, and then also perform a speed 1 maneuver after performing your standard maneuver.

With the exception of Mon Mothma. When you spend the Evade you either get the standard ability (long range) or Mothma's ability (close-medium range.)

Which is an exception even to these standards, because her Card text does not start with the "Evade:" Icon or anything like that...

Because we're talking about Commands, not Defense Tokens...

Its spelt out in wordy wordy words instead... :D But it is important to have these things from a point of reference... :)
