Using the speed measuring tool and range ruler

By chriscook, in Star Wars: Armada

I know that when determining the coarse of a ship u cannot layout a course by putting the tool down then grab the range ruler to measure, but..... i do remember reading that you could mark the spot with a finger or marker (dice, token) then remove tool and get out your rang ruler to measure. Can u please tell me where I can find that document.

Thank you

It was on old Tournament Play Guide. The new ones are completely different.

Yes. That rule was changed (and removed) to come under the Triangulation rules in order to speed up play.

Wait, was was removed or changed? Please clarify the rule and where it is stated.

With 3 Different FAQs, we've had 3 Different things bout Triangulation...

The most RECENT document has this - and only this - to say... Ergo, there are arguments about more to be had, of course.

FFG, Tournament Rules, Pg 5:

MEASURING

As written on page 9 of the Rules Reference booklet, “The maneuver tool can be placed and adjusted freely during the ‘Determine Course’ step of executing a maneuver to assist in determining a course. A ship is not committed to a course until the guides of the maneuver tool are inserted into the ship’s base.”

layers should not abuse this pre-measurement rule to slow the pace of play or interrupt an opponent’s activation.

One-Tool Rule: A player can only use one tool at a time when measuring range, distance, or movement. A tool is defined as the range ruler, the maneuver tool, or another component such as a token. This rule is intended to prevent slow play, as defined on page 5.

The FAQ has this to say:

Q: When can a player premeasure with the maneuver tool?

A: A player can only premeasure with the maneuver tool during his ship’s “Determine Course” step and only for that ship.

(BTW: I think this rule is a waste of ink, if slow play is to be avoided I don't see this helping at all.)

But you can use the Manouver tool to estimate where your ship will go, if you do not engage the Manouver tool you are perfectly entitled to note where your ship was going ( in your head, not with an actual thing, like a token or finger) put down the Manouver tool and pick up and measure with the range ruler from your ships estimated destination.

Some would argue the rules state a component and your finger is not a component so you can use a finger to mark a point. I think that's pushing it and not playing to the spirit of the rule, what do others think ?

One tool on the board only at anytime. You make a mark with anything, finger or otherwise and that is a tool for this purpose, so no other measure can be used until the 'mark' is removed.

The rules and FAQ make this very clear.

Same with trying to use the movement tool and range ruler together, or even two range rulers, ALL are not allowed.
