I am sure this has probably been asked before but I am new to this community and though I am a fan of the movies and of the 2 animated tv series (Clone wars and Rebels) I am curious as to what is canon now and what isn't. I have heard a lot of stuff that the novels and comics are non canon now and I have never read the books to be honest so I don't know what is canon and what isn't in the universe of Star Wars
Since Disney took over... some questions
At the moment, all that's canon are the 7 films, the two TV series, the comics currently being published by Marvel, and the books published since Disney bought the franchise. Anything that's coming out in future will be canon, anything before Disney other than the above list isn't.
The Son of Dathomir mini series is also the only Dark Horse comic that is canon.
The reason why I asked this is because on another board somebody told me that the Clone wars TV series wasn't canon. Only the animated movie and one part of the series dealing with Ventress were canon. I wanted to get more input about it because I would like to get more involved with this universe. So another question I have then is what novels have come out since Disney took over?

There were two Clone Wars TV shows, only one remains canon, that might be what they are referencing.
My understanding is JJ Abrams doesn't care about canon at all, and Disney agrees with him.
As far as I have heard, canon died when Disney took over. (PS: I'm fine with that, but I only watch the movies.)

Without trying to be contentious, where did you get that understanding?
Disney wiped out the EU so they could start fresh but from what I've seen so far, there are no major incongruities or contradictions within the Canon they have established. Given that JJ did one movie (that, again, didn't contradict anything else), not sure he should care about canon or we should be concerned about his lack of caring.
I thought it was a funny little in-universe "legend".

Disney wiped out the EU so they could start fresh
And not even that, they put it on a shelf to be admired, called it Legends and have, and will use it as inspiration for the future.

I have watched the movies and the tv series. I never got into the novels so if there are new novels out there I wouldn't mind reading them
Also don't know what rock I was under but never saw clone wars but I know I saw the clone wars. And used to watch cartoon network all the time till it got stupid ![]()

Stab my eyes, set fire to my ears and call me Lauretta that's criminal. To the chair with the one responsible for that outrage and don't scimp on the voltage.
Peter David's speciality is funny stories. Like in Star Trek with his "Q-In-Law" novel.

I'd rather have a Skippy the Jedi Kangaroo
But to be serious, Star Wars should have silliness and fun. Save serious for the news, I want action and adventure with lots of humour.

PETER DAVID is responsible for the jedi droid!!!
I was aware of the existence of the story, but I hadn't realized that someone with actual talent had created that abomination.

It was all very tongue-in-cheek, "aren't we clever, look at this reference that'll blow your motivator, I mean, mind" - and all the worse for it.
i always thought that if I saw him at a convention that I might throat_punch him and scream "Skippy made me do it!"
My understanding (such as it is) comes from rabid fans of the universe, two of whom claim to have read every novel. These are the people who beat me regularly in X-wing. In particular novel readers tell me that the congruity of novels has been deliberately called out as irrelevant to the new course of the franchise. I have no quotes to give you. Take it FWIW.
I tried to watch Clone Wars, but I was binge watching, and after season 1, it was the same story to me. I don't think that series lends itself too well to binge watching, but I'm old and jaded.
I actually read "Splinter of the Mind's Eye" when I was like, 11... Which I'm told is an abberration to the canon.
Edited by heliodorus04The last couple seasons of clone wars are a lot better. It explains where Ahsoka is coming from in rebels.

What we have been told is that, except for the specific stuff Paradignpainting mentioned in post #2 (mainly movies and the clone wars), the old "EU canon" has been relegated to "non canon inspirational material" but that everything going forward will be part of a single, unified canon. This means that most of the novels are now not canon, it does not mean that

It means that Disney has chosen to make a new canon. One that may be inspired by and take elements from the old EU, but that is not bound by it, and is free to create new stories.
Edited by ForgottenloreOk so again I ask to seek answers are there any new Novels out?

There are new novels that are part of the new canon. I don't know what most of them are. A quick google search should turn up a list of them though.
Thank you Forgotten
I liked the one with a young Kannan and Hera. I liked Tarkin. I thought Aftermath (the audio book) was alright. I listened with my 10 year old son. I couldn't stand the one with Luke.

Everything in the past is still canon. Even though LFL didn't say it outright everything new is primary canon while everything in the past is secondary canon. If its referenced it becomes primary canon. One of the people working on the Rebels show even said that everything is canon its only the fine detales that may become non-canon.
So heres one link showing what I am talking about.
