One of my player suggested disguising the hilt as a dildo. I thought she was joking, but she was not. She kept it in her satchel and most people that searched her were too embarrassed to examine it closely.

One must be EXCEEDINGLY careful with the activation stud on that thing...

To take a cue from an older anime series (Slayers), how about disguising the lightsaber hilt as the hilt of less exotic weapon? Gourry carried his magical artifact sword disguised as the hilt of an ordinary bastard sword, so a PC here could disguise the lightsaber hilt as a regular sword hilt, possibly even that of an ancient sword, using the ancient sword in combats where breaking out the real lightsaber would be a bad idea. And when the Zillo Beast threshold has been crossed, flick a switch to pop to sword blade out before igniting the lightsaber.

My character concept isn't that of the standard Jedi. His father/mentor taught him to embrace attachment. So a personalized lightsaber is absolutely warranted.

Even in the OT lightsabers were somewhat personalized. Luke based the design of his second saber off of Obi-Wan's--in the EU I think that was because he built it with parts and instructions found in Obi-Wan's home, but if you just watch the films and notice that you get the sense that he did so intentionally as a nod to his mentor.

Plus, I actually love the idea of personalized lightsabers that tie into a character's past. The mental image of a bunch of Jedi Knights of different species, homeworlds, and backgrounds coming together to study the Force while taking a piece of who they are with them really appeals to me.

I've always thought that the Jedi, as a galaxy-spanning organization from 1000 species and 10000000 worlds, should be more diverse and feature more internal debate and variation.

E: well, I did until they were revealed to grab the kids at a stupid-young age... after that, the uniformity and conformity made more sense.

Perfect for a Makashi Duelist. I've seriously considered making a character with a sabercane when I get a chance and playing him like Brooke from One Piece

I'd actually go for a good old beer stein. Flip it open and bzzhhhh. Get the drop on an opponent in the cantina, and you can cut 'em up before they can say gemutlichkeit.

Combined with all variety of instruments. Build one to look like a woodwind, or the neck of a stringed instrument. Not many customs officials are going to glance more than fleetingly at an oboe case.

Whole new twist on the old "violin case" trick, huh?
