Diala painting question

By xTehOnex, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Hello!

I have been painting up all of my figures and now it has come to the Jedi!! Super excited about this paint job!

Im really nervous as to how to approach the lightsaber, though. My original plan was to prime white and then layer on some of citadels 'temple guard blue'. I see that soastro used a different paint but I was wondering how far off the temple guard blue might look? Matching the exact shade from her card art is not key here, but I dont want a lightsaber that looks like a flat blue staff!

I think the edge line of paints is somewhat similar to the layer paints, but I could be wrong there.

Has anyone had any experience painting with this color? If not, what color did you use for her lightsaber?

Thanks ahead of time!

I mixed lothran blue with white to get to Sorastro's blue and then added some runefang steel for some glitz. Lothran is a shade brighter than TG blue, so you may need an even 1:1 white to TGB mix or maybe even more white. Ultimately find a good pic online, or the character art and try to match that, not necessarily Sorastro. As a hint whenever you add a shade to the mix paint a bit on white paper then hold that up to the art you are trying to match in order to judge if it's close enough for your taste or not. My pics of Diala will be up in Sorastro's forum later today or tomorrow so you can see what I did for yourself soon.

Also watch the Vader video, maybe you like that light saber treatment better. You can just sub blue for red and repeat the steps.

I had great success on Vader's just painting it white and using several coats of Citadel Khorne Red glaze. I then put a couple coats on his cloak to make it look like it was catching the glow from the lightsaber.

I tried the same with Diala with blue glaze and it worked well on the saber (I should have stopped one or two coats sooner though) but putting the effect on her cloathing with it didn't work as well. I would have been better off thinning down some pale icy blue with medium I think because the colour values of her clothing are much different than Vader's black cloak.

On the brown clothing you really have to mix light blue in and highlight. Glaze will turn the brown cloak purple and chalky.

Wow, thanks a ton for the suggestions! I'm new to painting so it will help a lot!
