He probably found clowning around a laugh, but behaviour like that is detrimental to everyone enjoyment in the long run. There is no excuse for that stunt he pulled.
Oh no he wasn't clowning around, exactly the opposite; he was no nonsense, aggressive, untrusting (I am not sure this is a word) and believed that everyone and everything was against him and the group, and as it turned a villain*.
It wasn't the only problematic PC, the gunnery PC was supposed to be a wanna be jedi and from the second session he started going being full dark side, including killing a downed (and unconcious) opponent.
The entire party make up was wrong, one of the PCs was a passive, talk first wanna be jedi; the other was a good hearted hotshot rebel pilot; the other was supposed to be an aggressive, shoot first ask questions later selfish droid, which turned out to be a psychopath droid; and the last was supposed to be a wanna be jedi who tries to manage his short temper but turned out to be a dark jedi who was dark because he was afraid he isn't powerful enough.
*I have to say again, that was (partly) because of the player not knowing enough about star wars which resulted to him not understanding (despite me saying so) that droid PCs have emotions and can tell right from wrong
