I'm sure much like an actual sextant, but keeping track of more celestial movements, coupled with estimatin distance (and time). Betting a device before the introductions of Astromechs and nav-computers. Probably resulted in a lot of lost ships, and shorter jumps.

It's fitted in tightly and the button is pressed by an extension to the switch....it works at any angle.the pictures are just that way for ease of one handed photographing.
