New Player, Tournament Tomorrow need help

By macar, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Hey guys, avid xwing player but new to IA. I understand the basics but need help in building a list sorta newbie friendly.

I currently own the starter, Royal Guard blister, Stormtrooper commander blister, IG-88, and Boba Fett

I can build a command deck but need ideas!

A good list for what you have might be "Vader's Fist," which can be built entirely from the core set. That is:

  • Darth Vader
  • Royal Guards
  • Stormtroopers
  • Stormtroopers
  • Imperial Officer

Vader really forces your opponent's hand. They either have to commit to killing him or mostly play keep-away. The Royal Guards can serve several purposes. They can make Vader even tougher if your opponent tries to take him down; they're solid fighters in their own right (although be sure to familiarize yourself with the errata for them); and they are also good at grabbing objectives. Stormtroopers give you more presence on the map and have the potential to dish out a lot of damage if they can focus fire on a single target. The officer is just a great support piece and can help Vader get into position faster (although officers also were changed in the recent errata).

Alternatively, you could play "Boba's Fist," which is basically Vader's Fist with Temporary Alliance, Boba Fett, and four other points (for you, probably a Nexu, unless you want to buy a Hired Guns pack) in place of Vader. Boba doesn't hit as hard but is still really tough and can heal himself back up.

I went 5-2 at Worlds with this list:

Kayn

2x Elite Stormtroopers

Royal Guards

2x Imperial Officer

It's a very flexible list with impressive range and focus out the wazoo. The Squad Training reroll is also an incredible advantage. There aren't many ways to modify dice in IA yet, so a consistent reroll is impressive.

My version of Boba's Fist:

13 Boba

6 Elite Nexu

1 Temp Alliance

8 Royal Guards

6 Stormtroopers

6 Stormtroopers

If you had access to 3 Imperial Officer cards then you could drop the second group of Stormtroopers for them. I'd rather have an Elite Nexu than a Regular Nexu and an Officer.
