New video/ships in Star Wars Rebels mid-season2 preview

By jpltanis, in X-Wing

Urgh their yoda looks terrible.

Not more of that crappy lightsaber with hilt blades. That's just stupid. If I wanted to watch flaming swords, I'd go back and watch the Lord of the Nazgul ...

Prey tell, why is the design stupid? A lightsaber is for all intents and purposes, a laser sword, crossguards can be used offensively or defensively. Hell why is a double bladed, staff, and short lightsaber all okay...but add two teeny tiny crossguards and suddenly it's the worst thing ever?

Personally I can't wait to see the rest of the series, things just seem to get darker and darker.

Goodness gracious. Super hype trailer, first two comments are whining about something. These forums sometimes.

So anyone willing to dissect and call out if there are any brand new ships here that could fit in X-wing?

Edit: But ya that Yoda was pretty bad lol

Unless I'm not making out those shapes properly, a potential Ahsoka A-wing pilot card? I'd be okay with that.

Also, it's "for all intents and purposes"

EDIT: Wow, it's totally Hera in that A-wing. I seem to have developed face blindness, or just saw what I wanted to see. Hera A-wing pilot... also up for that, though you could easily custom make that A-wing card.

Well, there is a new yellow TIE Fighter with a weird wing shape. Sabine's friend's ship shows up again. The Mando fighters. The Quasar Fire-class bulk cruiser may be a bit too big for an Epic.

Ship at 1:31 is the Mando fighter?

To be fair, a lot of people find the lightsaber escalation pretty silly in general. For something that is as inherently cool as a lightsaber, the need for everyone to have double bladed lightsabers, or hilted lightsabers, or two lightsabers, or four lightsabers, or two double bladed lightsabers, or a lightsaber with a built-in gun just feels kinda ridiculous, forced, and overdone. The original trilogy lasted to be one of the most beloved science fiction universes ever for thirty years with just plain old lightsabers. Rebels is all over the place with lightsaber cliches at this point, and it's only a season and a half in. The hilted lightsaber in it feels more like a product placement for the new movie, rather than something which makes sense organically to the story. Though, I guess this is a show/series built for selling toys, and here we are, posting about this topic on a forum dedicated to Star Wars toys...

Also, it's "all intents and purposes", not "intensive purposes", TMYK.

Also the hammerhead cruisers from kotor! Cham Syndulla! Darth Maul! Sith temple and sigh holocron! So much stuff, I was almost jumping with excitement while holding my laptop!

Darth Maul must be old as s**t.

If this doesn't happen I'm committing suicide

Must have Poe/Fel/Vader/Whisper tier A-Wing.

If Darth Maul turns into the dark side version of Yoda, complete with cryptic sayings, acting slightly crazy, and him training someone would be so awesome!

Is that a hammerhead cruiser? From KOTOR? Holy **** that's awesome, the more kotor we get the better.

it's not. way too small, and wrong back end.

but it's clearly been designed to resemble such.

There's always a few who manage to find the bad news inside of the good. Their loss.

But yeah, that was pretty awesome. It's not looking liked the candy-coated kid-friendly story line that many I seem to recall were moaning about. It looks pretty fantastic from that.

Psyched.

I think that was Hera in the A-Wing.

Looks like a fun second half to the season.

As for the cross-guard - I don't disagree entirely with many of the comments about regarding the overuse and/or need-to-innovate on a traditional design, but according to the "Star Wars TFA Visual Guide", the cross-guard isn't a stylistic choice and is purely functional. Ren's saber used cracked crystals (or some such, I don't have it to hand) and the cross-guard was necessary to vent excess energy and it also explained the look/sounds of it.

Again, not disagreeing that it felt like a product-placement but if Disney are choosing to continue to expand the types of lightsaber, I'm not all that bothered about what type shows up where, so long as it adds to the story and doesn't feel like a cheap tie-in.

Urgh their yoda looks terrible.

Not to mention when they were showing Anikin and said he looks amazing. Uhh... Yeah, but well it is Disney approved cannon. Oh and spoiler alert the trailer's got a broad sword lightsaber.

Yeah I can see prequel ships now getting mixed into X-wing.

Holy cow, is this going to tie into TFA?

Could that "old master" be a certain leading figure of that movie? Do we see the start of a certain force using, balance seeking group there? The Broadsaber hints at it.

Maybe this "old master" is Palpatine looking to replace Vader once more - this trailer is exciting stuff!

i didn't see it. Timestamp?

At 2:34. Looks like an ordinary TIE with the front two segments of the hex panels taken out.

I wondered if that was Maul. That would be the first time I ever was remotely pleased to see him on screen after his death in episode one. Sabine's friend coming back is making her ship more likely. New A-wings, seems cool. New styled hammerhead Transport send cool. Nifty Rebel Star Destroyer carrier thing, awesome. Jedi and Sith temples cool. Full wall of various lightsabre stuff, neat-o. Dark tones, okay I dig. Hope there's some good lighter stuff too. Looking forward to this.

*Anakin

seriously it's not like he's the most pivotal character in the franchise or anything. Also the looks amazing was about his capability.

srsly.
