Okay, so you can earn the Echo Base Troopers in the first mission. There are other missions in the campaign that give you Echo Base Troopers at no cost. If you choose to bring in your earned Echo Base Troopers on top of that, are you then bring in Elites or still the regulars?
Allies on top of Allies (Hoth Spoiler)
Speaking of which, I've been wondering - if the mission gives you an ally at the start, can you still bring another ally?

I know you're allowed to bring in additional allies over and above what the mission provides for free. I don't remember why, but I know it was shown to me before. The free mission allies do not count against the one ally per mission rule.
In Hoth, you get a lot of freebies. Very excited.
If the mission starts with an Ally already on the board, it always says that this Ally is deployed at no cost, meaning the Imperial doesn't gain any additional threat from it. The ally does not count towards the 1 Ally limit, so you may bring another Ally.
If the mission starts with Echo Troopers on the map, and you already have Echo Troopers as an Ally, you will wind up with two sets of regular Echo Troopers in play. You may only bring Elite Troopers if you have earned the same Ally card twice.
I believe if the mission states an ally(villain) is brought to the mission via special rules, then that specific ally(villain) is unavailable to be chosen again for that mission. Many of the missions state something to the effect of: "Heroes may not bring Han Solo to the mission" if he is already granted as a free ally. Does the mission state this?

The Echo Base Troopers pack only come with a single regular deployment card and a single elite deployment card. Due to component limitations, you would not be able to bring another Echo Base Troopers anyway since the mission would already be using it.
This would not stop you from bringing a different ally(villain).

Ah ha! But I bought TWO Echo Base Troopers! Why? Because I gotta!
Also, the mission states no restriction concerning bringing in any additional troopers, and the example you mentioned, oh rules Jedi, was concerning a unique figure - not a generic.
Heh, Rules Jedi. if only you knew.... ![]()
And yes, you're right, that rule i referenced is there just in case they decide to make different versions of named heroes, like Luke, so you cannot bring "Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight" to a mission that has "Luke Skywalker" as an ally.
It doesn't matter if you bought two, three or ten. Component Limitations rule limit you to 1 regular and 1 elite in a campaign.

I think the "Heroes cannot bring X" text only appears when the ally isn't available from the start of the mission (Fly Solo for instance), if the ally is available from the start then component limitations take care of it (the campaign doesn't care if you have multiple packs, it cares what comes with one of them), elites aren't going to happen since you haven't been awarded them having already earned them.

Also yes.

But the hoth core also comes with an Echo Base regular deployment card. The expansion for the Echo Base troopers has no rule on component limitations and simply says "Add the deployment cards to the supply"... similarly to the AT-ST. I think its the same for the Rebel troopers and the Sabaoteurs. I don't actually see a rule that forbids it.
For example the Snowcrash sidemission from the Echo Base Trooper pack
gives the allies Elite Echo Base Troopers at the start. But it doesn't say they can't bring regular Echo Base Troopers that they will have earned earlier...

Exactly my point, from a certain point of view. If you by some means one had earned 2 sets of Echo Base Troopers, meaning you could then bring Elite Echo Base Troopers, wouldn't it stand to reason that in this mission (because of the component limitations you sited) you could bring in the Elites?
Component Limitations are still in effect. The RtH box comes with 1 regular and 1 elite. Regardless of the number of expansions you buy, you are still limited to 1 regular, and 1 elite.
if the RtH box came with TWO, then you could bring two.
If the RtH box came with ZERO, refer to the expansion for that pack's specific Component Limitations.

Edited out this line because I noticed you covered it.
The component limitations are on figures so it's limited to 1 regular OR 1 elite.
AFAIK it's not possible to start snowcrash having already earned the elites.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Rules Nazi Jedi, but four Echo Base troopers running around would be pretty sweet....

That's a fun scenario.
The rules state:
"Rebel Allies", RRG, Page 5:
If an ally has both a regular and elite Deployment card, only the regular card can be used as an ally. If an ally is rewarded to the heroes and the heroes have already earned that ally, they can use either the elite or regular Deployment card.
If the mission starts with Echo Troopers on the map, and you already have Echo Troopers as an Ally, you will wind up with two sets of regular Echo Troopers in play. You may only bring Elite Troopers if you have earned the same Ally card twice.

I find your lack of creativity regarding the cards disturbing, you can print another one, or do what i do, put ID tokens with different sides for each miniature on top of the card with different colors regarding each unit. That way i have par example 2 red and 2 blue tokens, when i activate the blue unit i flip the blue id tokens instead of sliding the card.
Its not as cool as sliding the cards duel masters style but it gets the job done

You will find that it is you who are mistaken. About a great, many, things. What you do in the privacy of your own gaming domain is none of my business. But when people have rules queries, the answer is not "just print more cards" or "be creative with tokens".
In the above stated case, the term "Component Limitations" does not refer to a lack of creative manipulation, but to the heading of the exact rule called "Component Limitations", which I will list for you here:
"Component Limitations", RRG, Page 8
• If players run out of a card type, additional cards of that type cannot be drawn or used.
• In a campaign, players are limited to the number of figures included in the game. For example, the Imperial player is limited to six regular and three elite Stormtrooper figures, even if he owns multiple copies of the game.
In addition, most Ally/Villain packs include a "Component Limitations" section with references specific to the Ally/Villain pack it was included in.
AFAIK it's not possible to start snowcrash having already earned the elites.
If the rebels win the first mission (The Battle of Hoth), they earn the Echo Base Troopers as a permanent ally.

Yeah, then they'd need to earn them again to have access to the elites, I'm pretty sure the only mission that allows that is snowcrash itself.
Oh, right, ELITES. I kinda didnt read that last word,
The troopers given in Snowcrash at the start are elites, so that doesn't even break the base game limitation rule of 1 regular troop (which by the way was the only deployment card included, you need the expansion for the 1 elite deployment card). And none of the trooper/saboteur ally packs contain a limitation rule, which seems similar to the AT-ST, which has since been ruled to not have a limit. In the case of the Stormtrooper pack, it specifically says that you're still bound by the component limitation rules of the base game even though you purchased an expansion.

Look at Friends of Old. It specifically says not to bring rebel trooper. Like echo base troopers, the only way to be able to have had them is though the purchased expansion.
Based on our limited data, I think it would be legal. Of course, I have not read the mission specifics for Hoth, as I dont have the campaign yet.
Edited by Sam TomahawkAs I said earlier: the component limitation is on figures so the limit is 1 set of Echo Base Troopers, regular or elite. The elite card gets golden rule priority because it clearly represents something that would not be in the rrg but the figures don't because they are meant to replace the tokens in the base set (imo).
The text "Heroes cannot bring X as allies" appear when they do not receive them from the start of the game.
I just got a response back from Fantasy Flight, my question to them was:
Rules Question:
In Return to Hoth, the side mission that comes with the Echo Base troopers expansion "Snowcrash", the mission gives the Rebel players Elite Echo Base Troopers at the start of the mission. Usually this means that the players can still bring their own ally. Are they allowed to bring the Regular Echo Base Troopers to this mission that they will have earned as a reward in the first Hoth story mission?
The Response I got was:
BOOYA!
