The reason for optimism here is wave 8, where additional copies of numerous previously unavailable upgrades where printed including engine upgrade and predator. Unfortunately the difficulty involved in getting some upgrades is a real downside of x wing.
Autothrusters, my poor bank account, and the 'meh' StarViper
Dearest Fantasy Flight X-Wing team,
I'm begging you to find it in your hearts to include two copies of autothrusters in another expansion besides the StarViper expansion.
I'm asking for that because the StarViper expansion is difficult to find due to the fact that every X-Wing player with a pulse is buying it... I'm sure the boost in sales is a good thing for Fantasy Flight and it's good for the retailers...Unfortunately, it isn't so great for the bank accounts of many players (including me).
Sincerely,
A poor X-wing player who loves autothrusters and hates the StarViper.
Dear poor X Wing player,
Ha ha
Sincerely,
FFG.
Wait, when the 'inflated' prices are mentioned, how bad is it? I've had many folks get confused until they realised the starviper was a medium box. It looks silly in it (k-wing and punisher fit it much more sensibly) but there you go...
T70 and TIE Adv. Prototype would have been great places to include Autothrusters.
Well, the new TIE Advanced comes with Deadeye, an ept previously only available in the A-wing expansion. Along with Guidance Chips and Thread Tracers, just a whole lot of useful stuff for ordnance carriers.
The Inquisitor's TIE expansion is already showing a whole lot of love to Imperial players that already own Bombers and Punishers, on top of including a new ace pilot for under 30 points to include in lists with expensive ordnance upgrades.
If I hadn't bought my 2 Starviper expansions when they were readily available, I'd probably by annoyed.

Seen it for over $35. At one point you could pick them up for less than $13.
And the Starviper includes 9 upgrade cards over the 5 that small ships come with. Though 2 of the upgrade cards are unique, so that kind of sucks.
Edited by VulfYeah it's a sad fact that as soon as certain stuff gets rare the price gouging starts I remember very well the stupid prices interceptors shot up to.
Wait it will get reprinted in time don't reward shady practices.
FFG will prob just add it as an alternate art prize in one of this years tournaments.
Have we ever gotten alternate art modifications before? Usually alternate art cards are like, crew cards, right? Gunner, Recon Specialist....C-3P0, etc?
I have some alt-art PTLs. Any upgrade could be done just as easily.
poor you. the starviper is a super FUN ship. like, fun fun. You should use it. just put it next to some imperials.
One thing is that often upgrades that are designed to apply to other ships come two to a pack. For a brobot list all you need is a single Star Viper ship.

The whole concept of buying one ship to make another more effective is so grating though...

Lol. that super selling strategy lol.

Then run another modification. Sure, AT's are nice to have, but if I could run only one mod on my Soontir, it'd be TIE mk II and not AT for instance.
AT came out after the Interceptor. Much, much after. It's really cool that it worked so well with the ship! But people were running Soontir for years before AT ever came out.
Or make a convincing copy.
Solution:
Play with the starviper. it´s a lot of fun.

solution 2:
play it with thrusters ![]()

Still need a Punisher for that.
I've come to accept that you just gotta buy ships you don't want, if you want all the options.
But I still don't like it. Especially when some of the most desirable options come with cross-faction ships. Hell, I threw an E Wing in the trash the other day because I wanted the droids and have no desire to ever fly that ugly piece of EU garbage. And I'll probably do the same with a Starviper at some point. There's no way I'm ever going to fly that hideous space butterfly.

No offence Chuck, but that's really quite a sad approach to the game.
Why not drop the ship and pilots off at the LGS to help out new players, as display pieces in their window or prices for tournaments?
The StarViper is growing on me, two side by side look quite menacing and I just love flying them next to each other, slightly staggered and then s-looping, crosswise.

None taken. I play this game because it's Star Wars, not to explore the nuances of the way different ships fly. The Starviper and E Wing could be the best ships in the game and I still wouldn't use them. Same for the K Wing, Punisher, Phantom, Kirhaxz, YT-2400, and some others that I forget. If I don't like it, then it doesn't see table time.
It's wildly frustrating that several desirable upgrades are packaged with ships that I will never use.
the starviper is a beautiful ship
though it sometimes helps to have an alternate paint scheme

Then just use them?

Then just start using them in a list?
What can anybody say other than to offer you some cheese with that whine? All of those ships have a decent build or two.

Son, if my whining is putting sand in your panties, feel free to just, you know, not respond.
TIE Avenger would be the perfect ship to put a couple Autothrusters in.

I really don't understand the mentality of being a **** to someone because they don't like a ship that was put out for this game. I have several ships that will never see the table, bought one of each ship I don't like for cards and will patiently wait until they are released in another expac that I want to buy to get extra copies. Believe it or not I started playing this game, as I'm sure others have as well, because it's a Star Wars game. If it doesn't look like Star Wars then I might as well be playing some other game. If you like it then play it and let those of us who aren't as fond of it enjoy removing it from the playmat. That way we both play a fun game, you get to fly a ship that's "fun" while I get to return the game to a state that more closely resembles Star Wars.

I didn't actually mean your aesthetic choices - there's absolutely nothing wrong with preferring a specific theme or look to your collection at all. Hell, I myself haven't picked up a Decimator or the Raider for similar reasons, and I'm unlikely to get the Ghost or Inquisitor's TIE either. The only reason I have a HWK is because I won an expansion at a tournament.
I was talking more about the "keep the cards/bin the model" approach. If you're picking the expansion up anyway, why not give it a try? Or failing that, donate it to friends who play the game, or at the very least, stick it on ebay and get a little money back towards your next purchase?
