New Player - Looking Forward to This!

By NiallJC1984, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi folks,

I'm a long time X-Wing player (not a very good one mind you!) and was lucky enough to get a copy of the core Armada set for Christmas.

I have my first battle tonight so we're just going to run through the core stuff but the addiction has already set in!

I've got a seperate Nebulon and MC30C frigate and a pack of the Imperial/Rebel Fighter Squadrons.

Is this game similar to X-Wing i.e. do I need to collect both factions or could I stick with one only?

The rules do seem a bit more confusing at first glance but I'm sure I'll get there eventually.

Any key bits of advice for a new player?

You certainly CAN stick to just one faction, especially if you are just playing casually with friends. There are, however, cards that work well for both factions in just one expansion pack, so if you are playing competitively, you'll probably want to branch out sooner or later. Plus, why wouldn't you want more plastic spaceships?

Check out my Commander's Guide and Academy on my blog (check my signature for links).

I currently only play Rebels, and while there are a couple upgrades cards I don't have, they aren't ones I feel super sad about not having. You will be just fine with one faction.

Thanks folks :)

I'll let you know how I get on tonight - I suspect a lot of rulebook flicking ahead!

Don't get your hopes up, this game sucks...

JUST KIDDING ! It's very awesome once you get the core mechanics right, so move into attack position and have fun ;)

One advice for new players, when navigating, aim your ship for where you want it to shoot at in the next turn. Write this down somewhere, most preferably on your opponent's forehead. It may seem simple but it's very counter intuitive when you are used to move then shoot ;)

Considering that Advanced Projectors, Xi7 Turbochargers, Leading Shots, and Assault Proton Torpedo's all come in rebel packs

A bit of selfish promotion but my Armada Tactic News Signature is the gateway to youtube channel for armada. Enjoy!

Hi folks!

Well we had fun - although we were def not following critical hits correctly haha (I've since found your video link on the Crit Hit sticky Lyraeus so thanks for taking the time to do that).

I've gone and picked up a second Nebulon, Rebel Squadrons and an MC30 - just messing around with fleet builds now but to be honest I'll probably play a few more core missions first anyway.

Yay! They are useful!

Played my second game last night, thankfully against someone who knew what they were doing!

I ended up running a daft list just rushed together with whatever cards I had.

I obviously lost but it was a fun learning experience. I managed to run one of my ships off the board by turn three or so by accident (didn't quite realise how easy that could be in Armada haha).

One thing that threw me though, if I target a defence token with an accuracy token does that exhaust the defence token or just prevent opponent from using it? I'd have thought it exhausted it as a reminder to both that it couldn't be used that turn but I'm probably wrong.

Other than that I felt the full force of Home One and an MC30 vs my two Nebulons and a Corvette. Slaughtered!

It stops you from playing it... You do not Spend it. You do not Exhaust it. You do not Discard it.

Because you can even ACC an Exhausted Token if you wanted to stop them from using it... So when they spend their accuracy, it just means "I'm not allowed to touch it right now, at all."
