Leia + Tantive IV combo

Hey guys ! I was wondering if any of you have ever run this build ? Theoretically speaking, it makes Leia much more than an insurance policy because it opens up numerous options :

1) Use the Corvette to control another ship and essentially reduce his Command Value to 1, and give him the token from the order which means essentially giving him Raymus Antilles. In short, it turns any ship into a ship with Raymus Antilles, with the ability to cherry pick a ship each turn.

2) If a larger ship has already gotten the proper dial, pick the same dial as him and give it the token. Now you have a free Raymus Antilles on your ship.

3) Change the dial on a ship and keep it on the Corvette, for essentially a combined attack

4) Use the Corvette's regular order when no other option works well.

So, from this analysis, this combo seems to allow to make sure that other ships with a good investment in upgrades take even more advantage of these upgrades. On her own, Leia is interesting due to her ability to essentially make a ship Command 1, but Tantive IV seems to really flesh her out by giving the Raymus Antilles upgrade to every ship and essentially making them a Corvette. For 6 points, it's a bargain in my humble opinion !

I was thinking that a Corvette A was probably the best platform, due to its ability to contribute into throwing dice while at range, while the CR90B requires dedicated piloting to go brawling and make her Ion Cannons work. This way the CR90A can just focus on her trajectory as a Command ship while throw lasers at long range and focus on making the other ships more efficient.

Yes, it's a viable little trick.

The downside is that later in the game you might find that you need the Dial more than you need to pass on a token.

So I often end up with just Leia. On JL.

Good analysis on the timing of the dial versus token ! The idea was to run her with another Corvette (this one with Raymus, so it can act on its own), 2 Support Frigates and an AFMK2 A, with a little autonomous fighter force.

2AFs with T4+Raymus and JL+Leia is kind of cool. Plenty of activations and command flexibility. With Ackbar you don't have too many points for fighters, but you can't have everything.

The one problem I've had with using Leia in that way is that I need to activate her ship first in order to change the dial - and when I want a dial changed it is usually in a situation where I really want that ship to activate first.

When it worked though, it works very, very well.

Yeah, you kind of have to have the initiative and plan knowing that there is a very high chance you'll activate her first. I think it's easy to forget that and get caught up into messing up the activation order.

Or use her last on the previous turn.

I like her a lot.

Leia on a corvette sounds great on paper. The problem is that Corvettes live and die by the activation order. You muck it up once and generally they can be space debris. She is also 3 points of an insurance policy you should never have to use if you plan correctly. One more point gets you leading shots which tends to be a better insurance policy.

Don't get me wrong, I liked Leia when I ran her and the trick I figured out for her working with an engine techs MC80 was to activate her with a concentrate fire command after the MC80 as close to the end of the round as possible. The MC80 would generally be taking repair or navigate commands but it was nice to see how the board shook out to see if I would of preferred the extra firepower and Leia gave me that flexibility.

I still hold that she's a viable 3 pt upgrade if you're already running CR90. Even I don't always plan every AF 3-stack optimally. Every game there is bound to be a command or two where Leia could have an impact. She's not in my current build, but that's only because it has 3Afs and no CR90 :)

Yeah, I agree that Leia isn't woth taking a ship for that ability. And even Leia on her own I'm not sure is that worth it if planning is well done as ImpstarDeuces mentionned.

But, the ability to turn any ship into a Corvette (by effectively making it command 1) allows for quite some flexibility in deployment and battle plan conception. It means that you can completely rework what you have in mind to take advantage of a break the enemy has offered you. And paried with Tantive, now you also get the extra token to go with it.

re. T4: do not underestimate to power of CF tokens when rolling lots of Fickle Red Dice. They've been known to turn up blank on occasion :)

So, I was driving along, with my perfectly planned stack of command dials, when some jerk rams a lucky APT through my engineering section. I can tell you, I was sure glad I had taken out a roadside assistance policy from my good friend Princess Leia.

Princess Leia's Tantive IV roadside assistance insurance, don't fight evil Empires with out it!

And now we understand that the Rebel Alliance funded their starfleet with insurance scam. The scums !

i prefer running Raymus on Tantive IV which lets me send two tokens off to two other ships!

That's officer thinking Mister! I like the Leia Tantive IV combo very much myself, and rarely leave port without it.
