Vader, Vessery Tractor Beam and the Inquisitor

By Jedu, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I want to be the first person to invent this list. Immodestly I would say this is brilliant ;)

Colonel Vessery (38)

veteran instincts (1) tractor beam (1) twin ion engine mk. II (1) TIE/D title (0)

The Inquisitor (28)

juke (2) TIE/v1 title (1)

Darth Vader (34)

adaptability (0) engine upgrade (4) TIE/x1 title (0) advanced targeting computer (1)

100 pts

The idea behind this is to let Vessery make the best use of the tractor beam, while the others feed him with target locks (which give both Vader and The Inquisitor large boosts - Vader gets a crit and the Inquisitor gets an evade). Adaptability is still unknown, but if it lets a pilot to change pilot skill during the battle, it could:

- let Vader shoot after Vessery, with benefit of -1 green die

- let Vader become an ace hunter, if there are some pilots with pilot skill 9 (due to lack of initiative bid) and luckily even with PS 10.

We have here 9 red dice, 9 green dice, 15HP and high manuverability. It's only valnurable to unlucky green dice. Vader could be replaced with Soontir, but he wouldn't be as "adaptable", as Vader. Especially without init bid and usual faceoffs with 10 PS Poe Dameron.

What do you think? Is it less brilliant, than I think it is?

Well, based on the preview, we know a couple things about adaptability that we can infer:

Its called a 'dual' card, so that probably means you must equip two of them (on two different pilots in your squad). This is backed up by how it is used in the preview.

Its 0 points, so its not just gonna give you something for nothing. I expect you can have +1 PS to one pilot so long as the -1 PS side is up on another pilot. Likely during the match you will be able to flip them, but there must always be one with +1 PS and one with -1 PS.

Of course I could be wrong. It might be a case where you can just put it on any single pilot but perhaps you must flip it back in forth every turn or something, but I doubt that since it seems needlessly complicated...

If adaptability have to be placed on two different pilots, I would give it to Vader and the Inquisitor, who could take autothrusters instead of juke, in order to stay alive even longer. But all in all, the idea with adaptability isn't that necessary for this list. Dropping EU on Vader may give us 4 pts to give him VI and for example stealth device to Vessery (which still leaves us 1 pt left for getting rid of twin ion engines mk.II).

The Dual could also refer to the fact that the card is dual sided. So you might only require one equipment but if 1 round you boost your skill up or down the next round it might have to be switch to the other side for that round.
