A fixed-arc Y-Wing, that double stresses itself, needs a nerf?
Seriously?
Wow... have people forgotten to look at the Y-Wing's dial, lately?

I went to a 4 round event today with about a dozen or so players. At least half of them had Poe with VI, and most of the Imperial lists had Soontir in them. There was one Aggressor + Talonbane player, me with my 6 Crackshots, and a bunch of Acewing lists.
I know every single one of you guys complaining about the Stresshog is an Acewing player. It's this Acewing bull that needs reigning in, not one of the counters to it.
Maybe when your 40 point ship dies because it ended up with 3 stress on it you'll know what it feels like to have your opponent's R2-D2 Poe gain back 10 ******* shields in the end game against your 2 - 3 remaining TIE Fighters no matter how well you block or predict. GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Full disclosure or maybe a little bit about my X-wing experience to date, which isn't much compared to some of you. I got my start during wave 1 and I quit during wave 1. It seemed to me that during wave 1 you played swarm or you lost. Perhaps my perception was skewed or maybe I just didn't stick with it long enough. One thing is certain I didn't enjoy playing or playing against swarms.
Despite leaving the table behind, I continued to buy ships. I'm not really sure why. Maybe I liked the look of the game. Maybe I like Star Wars. Maybe I hoped swarms would disappear and I could come to enjoy the game. Maybe I had more money than sense. Probably a bit of all of them.
I recently began playing again when I notice that, while swarms still existed, there seemed to be a lot of successful non swarm lists. I still can't say that I like playing against swarms, but the tools seem to exist to combat them now. I too played in a tournament of 12 today. It was my first tourney as all my previous games were casual, although I've always kept my eye on the competitive scene. I played Poe, Miranda (TLT and Tactician), and 2 naked Bandits. I'm not sure this list fits the style I want to play. I think I will be happier playing "ace wing". I'll probably try triple Imp Aces or Palpamobile and Aces next. Here's the thing though, I like the stress hog. I like what it brings to the game even if it's meant to counter the style I'm gravitating towards.
Perhaps it's my inexperience, but I think you can like aces and not hate the stress hog.

I'm not saying that all Acewing players hate the Stresshog, I'm saying that all Stresshog haters seem to be Acewing players.
Also, I will say that despite how much I complain about Acewing, the game's meta is great right now. Acewing is annoying and can get out of hand sometimes but we have/are going to get a ton of great options for generics.
I like genericwing because you don't have action economy or high PS boost/BR or 2 focus tokens, Autothrusters, an evade, and stealth device. I understand that swarms dominated the game once but I don't really mind that since the core mechanics of the game are paramount in a swarm/general genericwing match. Your ship moves once, attacks once (maybe), and performs one action (maybe).
Perhaps it's my inexperience, but I think you can like aces and not hate the stress hog.
Especially when you run 2 aces and a stresshog! ![]()

The stresshog has become "Rebel soontir" in terms of roster composition
while Imps were joking "What 65 point roster is Soontir flying with"
It's "what 74 point squad will I fly with my Stress-Y"
Poe+Batwedge?
Horn+Blocker?
YYY?
Biggs and chewie? (Laugh what you want, but it's solid. I was surprised, but it really is)
KK?
any auto-include is bad for your health.
For all nay-sayers, who dare say stresshog existed before are plainly hypocrites. For 1 point over the "old" stresshog
you get R1 donut hole instead of R3 zone, get huge boost to damage output.
R1 is avoided much easier due to it being smaller, even a barrelroll might be enough
and damage output of TLT is exactly 2 times bigger (considering you are stressed all the time or used the focus while defending your sorry PS2 arse)
1 point
filthy rebels getting all the toys >:C

I've always said that I felt swarms were very thematic and when I quit back in wave 1 it was more a reflection of what I was looking for in the game than the game itself. Today I feel like I've got the tools to compete with swarms and still play a style I enjoy, so I came back.
I tend to find jousting into range one as fast as possible with my last base boosters a pretty easy tactic to avoid the double stress. Doesn't work as well for Soontir, but screw that guy anyways.

Or you adv sensor boost+k-turn\Sloop to the side.
If the enemy didn't block it, there are no asteroids, and stress-y didn't bank to that side.
Sure thing xD
screw fel, screw vader, screw any non-kanan-dash PWT, screw YV-666, screw deci, screw phantoms, screw any PTLer, screw all non-boosting action-relying enemy...
Or just blast it with 12 dice. in da face.
Most people counter that saying a stressed X-wing is predictable.
I don't get that, I mean I've heard it but don't get it. A stressed X-Wing has exactly 1 maneuver it can't do. Sure you don't get any actions when stressed, but a unmodified shot where they can't return fire is better than a TL or F when they can... Unless you think you can kill them first.
Far too many people think when stressed you must do a green maneuver, and that simply isn't true. Qutie often you can use that mindset against them in fact.
Sure a Vader, Fel or Jake with stress is in trouble but Wedge? Not so much.
That's quite true. I had an awesome game against a Stressbot list. Ended with my last Slaver against the Stressbot and the stress was piling up. By the last turn we had about 20 stress between us! Neither of us bothered trying green moves, we just did what seemed best each turn. Great game, Stressbot was very strong but not unbeatable, stress doesn't mean you're dead.
I won by the way...
Also I have no problem with Stressbot BUT I really want something comparable for Scum. ![]()
I dont think the stresshog really needs a nerf, although they are bloody annoying to play against. Becomes even worse when flown next to a biggs...

Trandoshan Slaver with Bossk/Gunner/Tactician does have the ability to double stress in a pretty wide area, but it's harder to use and not assured. It does have the bonus of actually having a decent chance of putting damage through on Soontir, too.
What is the stress hog build?
A Y-wing with the BTL-A4 title, the R3-A2 astromech, and a turret - usually a Twin Laser Turret, although an Ion Cannon Turret works nearly as well (shorter range, but ion+stress is a beautiful combo). R3-A2 lets you take a stress token to inflict a stress token when you declare a target at range in your firing arc. BTL-A4 lets you shoot and declare targets twice (once with your primary, and then another shot with your turret), so this ship can inflict 2 stress per turn on a single target.
Its main weakness is that it takes on more stress than it can really shed, so you quickly have a ship that can't K-turn and can't take actions. If you can get behind it, it will die. Since it's a fairly cheap ship, though, it's also easy to help it out with other turrets to cover its flanks, or with ships that can drain stress or grant free tokens.
Edited by DdogwoodThe anger over a slow jousting ship with no turret (you locked it forward for the extra shots & stress) and crap for maneuverability is astounding. The argument that it shouldn't work unless it hits is rediculous when the thing it's meant to slow down are high maneuverability ships that are hard as heck to push through damage on. Soontir Fell would just laugh at this thing if it had to hit to work. Soontir has been one of the best ships in the game for a very long time and is always frusterating for people to face off against. So sure let's gut rebels answer to this ship because you don't like having to adapt to it.
The other argument I've seen is that it's warped the meta.... yes it probably has. Soontir as one of the best pilots in the game has probably deformed the meta much more and for much longer so the change you are seeing in the shift to rebels is more what the stock market would call a correction. Soontir is still great, it's just that Rebels finally have a cheapish way to give them a chance against him. There are many many many ways to knock out the brick, if it's taking over your meta then there are some very solid options that will allow you to do so.
The stressbot can and will wreck an ace the problem is not the stress bot the problem is the prevalence of 35+ point, action reliant aces. Anger like this is only caused by one thing in games like this, self interest. IE you're angry that you can't play your toys the way you want to because someone is playing their toys the way they want to therefore this has to be bad for the game and must be nerfed! NAO!!11!!ONE1! Back to less snark. Adjust your playstyle or list to beat the stressbot or continue to fail. There are something like 23 ships between rebels and imperials along with dozens of pilot options and upgrades. I'm sure with enough ingenuity you can come up with a hard counter to stressbot to drive it into decline in your local meta.
Adjust your playstyle or list to beat the stressbot or continue to fail.

as a S&V player I say "Zog dat 'umie to da airlock"
TLT spam is more effective as scum
For me it's because r4 is dead sexy, but people seem wedded to unhinged (far faster than r2)
S&V tlt spam sees an autothrusting ace and does a sad trombone sound.
Rebel tlt spam sees an ace and makes OMNOMNOMNOMNOM sound.
that's the difference.
against all the other targets you are indeed right. approximately 1,5 extra damage punched through average 2 dice evades thanks to Agromech
maybe we WILL see more merc astros in the future, but right now...

Then pass that dutchie on the left hand side.
Two Black Sun Aces with Wingman to accompany a heavy hitter?
Two Black Sun Aces with Wingman to accompany a heavy hitter?
the timing of wingman triggering means you're not getting actions.
it clears stress at the beginning of combat.
so no actions.
Black sun ace with wingman is an autoinclude in Cobra+EU+Glitter+Ptl lists for me.

TLT is not what this thread is about. TLT =/= Stressbot. TLT has a role to play in stressbot but we aren't discussing TLT on this thread.
S&V don't have the largest number of options to work with when it comes to dealing with anything atm. They are the newest faction thus they are behind in the number of options they have available. I'm not a scum player so I can't speak intelligently as to what they have available as an answer to stressbot. Fly the space camel (YV-666)? I'm pretty sure two rounds of shooting from a bossk led ship can blow up a single y-wing and Bossk doesn't really care too much about stress. Concentrated fire by aces will take it out in like 2 rounds. It's like a beefier biggs but you choose to shoot at it instead of being forced to. Or you can stay out of it's arc.
If you have a complaint about the TLT there are various threads discussing it that have been posted... Or you know, you can make another.

Stresshog's problem is that it severely...nonono, SEVERELY lowers list diversity.
not to the Whisper levels, of course, but somewhere near.
Dat 'umie iz still 'ere?
Zog dat 'umie to da airlock!!!
Soontir is already in over half my games. Without stressbot around that will get worse. It's fine.
Yup. End of discussion.
I don't think scum is affected as badly as you think. We do have the best non turret large bases with our nice Firespray pilots, the YV-666 and of course Brobots. We have the generic (unlike Kyle Kartan) K4 Security droid that allows us to modify attack dice while stressed. Imperial and Rebel options are hit a lot worse in my opinion.

I get it you hate stressbot. It's the new hotness... even though it's not new at all. It's been around in one form or another since most wanted dropped. It got better with TLT but it's still been there. Now that it's on top tables and your playgroup is adopting it doesn't make your anecdata any more valuable to any discussion because it's anecdotal. My playgroup had brobots, Fat Han/Dash, or Soontir+something else for a very long time is that bad for diversity? I don't know but I can't replicate what I see in my group to the entire playerbase. Nor do I presume to. Currently we rarely see stressbot. Everyone has access to it, everyone knows its there but we rarely play it. Why? because it's not that fun to fly. So we've adapted and Palp+Aces is the old but new again hotness in my play group along with Integrated Astromech shenanigans.
I'm saying that if you hate stressbot so much make a list that defeats it soundly. If you do that enough your playgroup will realize it's not the greatest thing since sliced bread and branch back out. Don't try to nerf the game because of something in your playgroup is a problem.
