Thought Exercise - Breaking stress

By Rividius, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've always been a fan of the Ibtisam B-Wing, whenever I flew it I found it just a bit on the expensive side to really do the things I wanted to.

Rerolls when stressed are great, but Fire Control system does the same thing and I can still perform actions.

Now that stress is a bigger part of the game and the stress hog a staple in Rebel builds, I'm thinking of ways to build stress immunity into a list.

This is purely a thought exercise, and not something I expect to end up on the final tables of competitive tournaments, but rather the left field question I like to ask myself when new cards get released.

What combinations have you thought of that give a proverbial middle finger to stress mechanics?

Ibtisam (28)
Predator (3)
Sensor Jammer (4)
Hera Syndulla (1)
B-Wing/E2 (1)
While not stressed, Predator and Sensor Jammer are good upgrades in their own right. We're only spending 2 points in Hera+Mod that aren't being used at this time.
While stressed, Ibtisam can still perform red moves, actually opening up the dial somewhat, and gets a further reroll on offense and defense.
37 Points is pretty expensive for all this, but I think its pretty solid overall.

Horton Salm (25)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
R2-D6 (1)
Wired (1)
Horton with Wired is rerolling every non-hit at range 2-3, assuming he's stressed. I've left him title-less here as once he's stressed he is only slightly more maneuverable than a shuttle, so keeping the 360 threat allows him to still be relevant.
Tycho Celchu (26)
Wired (1)
Chardaan Refit (-2)
Push the Limit (3)
Autothrusters (2)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)
Obligatory Tycho when talking about stress immunity.
Total: 100

Hard to beat the psycho for stress immunity (impunity? lol). The B could just be a blue with title + hera + fcs right? Looks aight to me. Ys and Ks really don't care either, same with Zs and some Xs too.

I think if your looking for immunity it starts by just keeping action dependency or greed to a minimum which in turn eliminates some aces and in general lends itself to generics.

Solid. I'd rather go FCS on 'Bit, and bump Tycho to Daredevil from Wired, but that's really a "dont own a Space Cow" preference and my experience with Tycho.

Could, but Ibitsam actually gets a defensive reroll when stressed, as well. When you have as many hit points as a B-wing, even a slight increase in your agility can make a big difference. Pair it with the sensor jammer and she can be actually surprisingly hard to hurt, especially at range. Hera opening up that hard 1 turn/2 kturn at will is nice, and (hopefully) will make up for the loss of barrel roll.

Predator does waste her offensive reroll occasionally, though, but as noted still works if she's not stressed. Plus it's two one-die rerolls that can be used side-by-side a lot of the time. The counterargument is that she can stress herself and stay stressed from turn 1 simply by hitting the gas because there's so much sodding red on the dial.

If you want a firepower increase which works when stressed or not and doesn't clash with her pilot ability, a cannon might be a good investment.

All in all, the squad looks good. The one problem is that once stressed up you've got three very different dials, so it'll take a bit of practice to fly.

Haha, nice.
