Will we ever see an evade mod?

By darkdooku, in X-Wing

I would LOVE a barrel roll hull mod... ^^^

I'd slap it straight onto the adorable white space manatee...

expert handling?

Lambda doesn't have an EPT slot :(

But yes, expert handling gives the option of adding BR to EPT-capable ships.

EDIT: ninja'd

I had considered mentioning how Stygium Particle Accelerator will soon give any Illicit toting Scum ship the evade action (a huge point sink on something almost certainly guaranteed to fizzle before earning its value, that's another topic though) but if I included that I would have had to include all other forms of acquiring free evade actions/tokens a la Ysanne Isard, Lando, C3PO, Jan Ors, Tie/v1 Title, etc. So we'll leave it as methods that add evade to the action bar unrestricted.

In response to the replies stating that evade action = Imperial regen, I would say that is highly situational and only a guaranteed free shield point in 2 situations:

1. A turn in which you are attacked and spend the evade token

2. Comms Relay equipped ships

In most other cases it is wasted action economy on your part(Juke/Comms Relay both help with this, at an additional cost though). There are some artificial qualities to the evade token that can have an effect on your enemies targeting priority but it most certainly does not guarantee a free shield point every time it is taken.

Sure, but don't forget that Rebel shield regen is equally bound to pretty restrictive conditions.

I do agree that Rebel regen is restricted but it is mostly guaranteed. You took a green maneuver and have R2D2, guaranteed shield. You use once less die on that Miranda TLT shot, here have a shield. You take an evade on a Tie Interceptor and it doesn't get shot at this turn or does get shot and green dice finally come your way so you don't need to spend it, wasted insurance and loss of other potential actions.

Rebel regen is more in the Rebel player's control whereas taking an evade is totally dependent on your opponent attacking the evading ship which you have little/no control over.

Keeping an evade token ala Comm Relay was three points so if they were going to add it, I reckon it would be that.

Additionally, the ships that need the evade action either have it already, have access to it via other means (title etc) or will be given it soon (Defender title - Starviper wish list).

I do think FFG seems to be going the route of giving ships actions/abilities circumstantially, which makes sense. It allows them to better pointedly fix an issue w/o too much room for corner case exploits. This further makes me think we won't see a generic evade modification, Seems like the game and ship diversity has progressed enough that an evade modification doesn't seem likely in the future.

I'd be more interested in a barrel roll mod, personally.

But as you already said... comms relay is a regenerating Shield for Imps... And they can bring far more of those than rebels can bring regen.

On top of that, it does require an action, but then Rebel green moves are quite predictable, and Focus can be denied, and sacrificing a potential damage on Miranda is not nothing either... You sacrifice things for shield regen, for rebels, and for imps.

It's also restricted on ships. Rebels can have 4 different ships with Astromechs and Doni on the K- Wing. Imps are at the moment restricted to the FO

How about a mod that increases your primary weapon value by one if it's two or lower?

Here I thought there was a title coming out for a specific ship that does that. If I recall correctly it's cost only cost 12 points. Perhaps that is overpriced but it looks like it is what sets the standard.

I'd say No to a modification that adds Evade to a ship's Action Bar. What's the fair cost of such a thing when it can give something that acts like a shield token but can be used multiple rounds? We see one that puts Boost on the Action bar but how often do you see it on small ships? There is also the one for Target Locks but how many ships lack that option to begin with yet want it badly enough to spend the points to get it? Shield and Hull upgrades may boost base stats but they are generally only good for one use. The Stealth Device may grant a little extra agility but it doesn't last if hit so it's value is highly questionable especially when compared to the Hull Upgrade and considering how unreliable it is.

I'd sooner see a modification that adds Barrel Roll to a ship's Action Bar but pricing that could be tricky.
