Fly your T65 X Wing with pride......its still a good Fighter !

By Barry Harker, in X-Wing

A lot of People don't seem to enjoy playing the T65 any more, mainly due to its problems and the new T70.

But.

Take it for what it is.

Still a good ship, yes it has short comings.

But a good pilot works with the problem, fly's through the difficulty of the situatuon and overcomes an opponent,

That in some case's has a superior ship to you.

And if you beat them when they have a superior ship.

Then the victory is all the more better.

Wedge is still one of the best pilots in a Good fighter,

Its not the best, it has drawbacks.

But your a Rebel, fighting against greater numbers for your very existence against the evil Empire that wants to Subdue, Suppress or wipe out your very exsistance.

In well maintained ships that will always outnumber you,

While your fighting in a patched up grimey fighter held together with determination, grit and skill.

With a tired and stressed ground crew scraping parts together while having to move from base to base for fear of being found and wiped out by the Imperial Navy or that wretched Death Star.

Yea.

The X Wing is still bloody Good.

Like those Brave Pilots in the Battle of Britain,

Outnumbered and outgunned.

The Battle of Malta......even worse odds....still just about managed,

Those amazing American volunteers flying for the Chinese against the might of the Japanese Empire,

The Flying Tigers in outnumbered P40's against superior

Zero's

That's What your Flying in.

Its not just a ship.

Its a cause.

Its a struggle against tyranny.

Fly your X wing with pride.

After all.........they named this game after it.

All the Best.

Barry.

I hope to see other pilots flown. I've personally flown Biggs and wedge with integrated astromechs to good results.

Perhaps it's just because I've only played a few games with only about 7-8 different ships, but I really don't see the issue with T-65s, they've performed well for me so far. Decent Firepower, Agility that isn't horrible, Astros are nice and they have some great pilot options in Luke, Wedge and Biggs... The only issue I can see is the lack of Actions available to them (I'd like to see Evade as an option), but that's hardly the end of the world...

I'm sure there are better ships out there, but the game seems balanced enough that taking the best in any given category is not the only option that you can do well with.

Mind you, T-65 X-wings are just about the coolest thing in the game that doesn't begin with 'YT' and end in '1300', so I'd fly them even if they were utterly useless.

1) Good Luck

2) Can I have the list? :P

Integrated Astromech has raised them to perfectly solid.

The meta hasn't decided what to do with such a ship yet; it's still reeling from all the tricks and traps of the last update elsewhere.

I expect to see them show up when someone wants simple firepower that isn't a TLT, much as B-wings used to. We'll see when that comes to pass.

2) Can I have the list? :P

You certainly can!

“Red Ace” (38) T-70 X-Wing (29), R2-D2 (4), Comm Relay (3), Autothrusters (2)

Poe Dameron (37) T-70 X-Wing (31), R5-P9 (3), Veteran Instincts (1), Autothrusters (2)

Tarn Mison (25) X-Wing (23), R7 Astromech (2), Integrated Astromech (0)

Three very tough ships, with two of them capable of hanging with soontir, for different reasons. Poe can hunt him while regenerating, Red can just face-tank anything Soontir has to offer. It ain't platinum grade or anything, but I think it'll be good enough for me to have fun and win more games than I lose. Not sure I like the Corran/Dash match up though, being honest...

That's not X-Wings! Those are those new fangled T-70s!

It is a nice list though, should be pretty tough.

I'm taking 3 T-65s.

Wes: VI, R3-A2, IA

Wedge: Pred, BB-8, IA (might change to R2 unit and/or PTL, those hard 2's are golden and I hate being crippled by stress)

Luke: LW, R2-D2, IA

So far it has done well, but I understand it's not a tier 1 list, probably not even a tier 1.5 list either. But Wes is a pain in the rear for removing tokens (Target Locks on ordnance boats is hilarious) and adding some judicious stress (Soontir with stress from PTL now has 2 muahaha). Wedge does what he does, and Luke flanks/finishes.

Wedge with PtL and BB-8 is a pretty solid combo. I haven't seen too much of it in tournaments but it's done solidly in other games that I've seen - just as long as you have other ships/rocks to cover your flanks. When you're getting TLs + Focuses almost every turn with Wedge's ability, you'll be doing plenty of damage.

Thanks! Yours looks good too, but have you considered taking Wired on Wes instead? It's a great match for that build... And BB-8 is definintely the right choice for Wedge, imo. He loves to have post-dial movement, and hates to be blocked - the beachball takes care of both. Good luck!

At a tournament on Sunday, someone ran:

- Wedge, VI, BB-8, Integrated Astromech

- Luke, VI, R2-D2, Integrated Astromech

- Poe, VI, R5-P9, Integrated Astromech

I still like the x-wing! I only play OT ships so none of those T70's anyway

One list i'm trying out this weekend:

luke: VI,R2D2

3x rookie with R2 astro

Still thinking about switching the VI for lone wolf or swarm tactics, but that puts me at 100 pts exactly, so might remove one r2 from a rookie .

Or downgrade R2D2 to R5P9, less tied to green moves and Luke can preserve defensive focus quite well to get the regen

Yup i know, but with VI, you really want to get the best out that shot before all PS9 aces, so focus gets used more often than not. And luke and R2 are pretty iconic!

However IF i use lone wolf on him, i'd definately switch to R5P9, as you get some help with your offense already.

Still like R5P9 better in combination with garven dreis or kyle with the moldy crow title/recspec , as they can gift focus and make sure you keep one for the end phase.

Ha ha ha. No.

Thematically, I wish R5-P9 had BB8's ability (and vice versa). Because I always want to run BB8 with Wedge and R5-P9 with Poe.

If only there was an easy way to get multiple copies of Integrated Astromech (and Targeting Astromech)...

I feel the big problem now is not that t65 is no good, but if you compare rookie pilot to blue sq novice, You get a shield upgrade and an engine upgrade and a tech slot for 3 points extra (and you can talon roll).

I've certainly considered it, but I just love being able to get it and remove TL's (muahaha Vader), evades, focus from targets before Wedge starts blowing things up. It expedites the process.

For the same reason I haven't replaced him with a Stresshog either.

Had this been posted a few months ago I would have agreed with the need for a defense of the X-wing. (T-65 or otherwise) Now, after the new goodies found in TFA Core and T-70 Expansion there is no doubt that the T-65 is a competitive ship again! I've been involved in a few all X-wing build conversations over the past few weeks. Heck, there have been many talks of XXXXZ being superior now to BBBBZ!

The X-wing does not need to be defended anymore and the latest lists that are popping up in the meta prove that.

What do you mean by still? It's a good fighter now but it wasn't for a long time. Relative to the other ships it got progressively worse since Wave 1, and then at Christmas it suddenly became a very good 22pt fighter, comparable in raw mathematical efficiency to the B-wing.
