Characteristics vs. Ranks?

By infmed, in Game Masters

Let's say our PC, Dingleberry, has an agility of 2 but purchased 3 ranks in the piloting skill. Would they still only receive 2 yellow dice since they normally would only get 2 green from their agility pool? Or does purchasing ranks grant you additional dice beyond what your characteristic would normally give you?

They would get 3 green dice from piloting, because it is the higher ranked skill. Then they would upgrade two of those dice to proficiency(yellow) because the agility is the lesser rank.

So whichever rank is higher is the one that gets turned into green dice, and whichever is smaller gets turned into yellows. Then, if you raised your agility one, you would still get the three dice. But because the skill and characteristic are of the same value all three get upgraded into yellows.

There is a great example of this in the Core Rule book, not sure which page though.

Hope this helps.

Oh, Dingleberry. In short, yes.

An Agility characteristic of 2 and a Piloting skill of 3 would combine to give you; 2 Proficiency (yellow) dice and 1 ability (green) dice.

Conversely, the same would be true if Dingleberry had an Agility of 3 and a Piloting skill of 2.

Good luck Dingleberry.

Semper Fi.

And that's basically true across the board. Big number is the base, small number is the upgrades
