Build squads and simulate combats: Squadron Benchmark v0.7.4

Hi,

For those who do not know Squadron Benchmark, this is a web app you can play on a computer or a pad, where you design your squad and then simulate a combat, for training or testing your new squad. The idea is to quickly test some ideas, check some combos and train in maneuvering units. All in all, it takes less then 10min to play a combat. This is a single player app, a (simple) AI can play one or both squads. The app automatically handles all rules and pilot abilities.

The new version of Squadron Benchmark, v0.7.4 is out and integrates new units, a new squad builder and many bug corrections.

  • All units of a faction can be browsed quickly, comparing their statistics. For a given ship, all pilots are listed with their cost, skill and elite slot (if any). Pilot characteristics are available within just a few mouse moves (or with a few clicks for an ipad).
  • New pilots, including the Inquisitor, VCX-100 pilots, Assault Shuttle pilots, G-1A pilots. All pilots have now their own picture (© FFG).
  • You can either see for each unit/pilot the ship image, as used in the combat simulator, with its shields/hull/agility or the dial of its maneuvers. Simply click on the image/dial to switch.
  • Alternatively, you can directly type your squad composition, or modify an existing one, in the text areas. Use the autocompletion, with TAB / shift+TAB keys for cycling through possible completions. When finish, press " Import " to add the squad to the list of squads. This works in English and French. XWS3.0 format has been disabled for now (temporary).
  • Alternatively, you can directly select squads (from version 0.7) from the list of 70+ squads from the community.

Maps

You can now play on the standard map (90cmx90cm), an Epic one (180x90) , the trench of the Death star or with an asymetric setup where one squad is limited to a small square zone.

New units

You can integrate new pilots for G-1A, Attack shuttle, VCX-100, TIE Adv. Prototype in your squads and test them in combat ! Many of them are fully implemented now. For upgrades, check in the squad builder their status.

This thing is freaking cool!

I don't get as many games as I would like in, so this is a great way to practice builds that I may not get time with on an actual table.

This is fantastic! Sure there are some kinks to work out, but some of the AI shenanigans makes for a very entertaining experience (Nothing better then seeing Whisper fly off the board within the first 2 rounds of combat).

I can see this going places, Props to the creators!

Juke is not in the squad builder it is in there

also tested it out, not sure if it understands that a bump causes no actions to be taken.

Ok so after playing a few games I wanna provide a quick bug report.

Advanced Sensors doesn't always show up when it should. Fire Control seems to never appear. Chirpy flew off the board at nearly full. Sometimes when I (player) attack my dice results weren't appearing and damage wasn't being tabulated on the bot ships. Considering it was an HLC on a Decimator and twice dealt no damage I have to guess it's just a bug. Poor Soontir never PtLs.

I love that the collision pathing seems fleshed out, but I don't think the bot ship rolled for damage on an asteroid after being blocked. That may have just been me missing it though.

This is still a great program for making a list and practicing formations and maneuvers!

I have noticed that Miranda never seems to regen her shields. When near full shields she'll lose one to gain an extra dice but never the reverse.

You can manually fire the missiles if you're controlling one side but the computer never fires them. At least it hasn't in all the games I've done today.

Very interesting. Using ios 9:

1. Squad builder seemed to partially blank out adding upgrades on a Red Sqn X wing and it proved impossible to delete - had to go back to build the squad from scratch.

2. I may not have understood the game interface but the combat phase seemed to 'hang'.

I look forward to playing around with this more.

Pfft. Can't believe I didn't see that before. Thank you.

Now if only I can figure out how to get Poe's shields to regenerate off of R5-P9....

I just wanted to come back and say that, although not perfect (what is?), this thing is an amazing tool and really really good.

Zeta Leader (TIE/FO) is missing, but it is not listed as one of the missing pilots.
