I've had the very lucky experience to teach this game to a somewhat varied group of people, and in this certain case, its included a rather high number of women. (no asian grandmas though, that was a funny story I heard once)

Now, some like it, and some don't. Just like anyone.

But one thing I've found that has really worked and resonated with some women that have played the game is - having a female pilot card in their list, or at the least on the field for groups and lots of players.

What intrigues is that its the idea that sticks: Ibtisam's card has a Bwing artwork. Nobody can tell she's a fishy lady in there. But being told that this pilot is a girl. It seems to stick.

Especially with Disney's marketing and the new attraction of Star Wars as something that both genders would enjoy, it seems like a good time to put a thought into how we show this game to people who might be REALLY out of the norm for a miniature, war game. Meaning, likely not a male, maybe not a nerd, likely not a strong gamer, potentially not American/white.

[This is the point where I say, if you got a problem or want to make this about politics, go away. Do it in another thread. I don't even ask you to agree with me.]

Firstly, I was drumming up a list for a friend to go with Carnor Jax, cuz she likes fast units. Last time we played, I had Juno in her list. I didn't make a big deal out of it, but I put Juno in to show that hey, not every character in the game is male.

Now, in my second list, I wanted to try and find another meta-strong character. And... wow. There is a serious dearth of female imperial pilots. Here's the full list of "possible" female characters with some background evidence:

We've got Hera and Sabine coming with the Ghost in Wave 8, as both pilots and crew.

and even if they have an overall smaller %, they'd still win out in raw numbers

I read the OP three times and I still don't really know what this thread is about, though. If it was political and you were critiquing the lack of women in the game, sure, I could get behind that. But you want Photoshopped custom cards and fanfic that won't stick? Ok I guess. I can definitely help with the first, and possibly with the second, but I don't understand what for.

Judging by the crowd shots in episode 7 I would say a good 20-30% of the X-Wing pilots were female.

Does that help? And it's a universal. In pretty much any game system, women are encouraged to take it up / continue playing by seeing women characters.

Dengars fiance/later on wife I belive, not sure about that, though.

There was a female pilot or gunner in RotJ on the rebel side - female combat pilots were never common (more like 10-20% at most), although most squadrons did have 1-2 token female pilots - non-combat pilots were fairly common however, the female crew card from Rebel Transport was also a pilot but not a combat pilot, as were ground crew and in most other positions.

Scum had a lot more female pilots.
