Fat Han w/o C-3PO

By Dm225, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've been trying for awhile to build a Fat Han list withouth C-3PO due to budget reasons and this is the closest I could get.

Han Solo 46

Engine Upgrade 4

Jan Ors 2

Millenium Falcon

Push the Limit 3

Recon Specialist 3

Poe Dameron 31

Autothrusters 2

R2-D2 4

Veteran Instincts 1

Total Points: 97

I'm not 100% sold on Poe here but he seemed like the best fit and the low point total gives me a decent initiative bid.

Okay this is going to sound cheeky but find the closest Store Championship and attend. You'll get a 3PO.

Interesting build though!

That is exactly what I'm planning on doing.

That is going to be alot of evades. Your firepower looks to suffer though. Do you need the initiative bid?

if you can get to a local store champ, they're handing out free-p-os to the top 32

Well Jan Ors can only turn one focus token a turn into an evade so with Recon Specialist and Push the Limit I can take one focus action and one evade action to get two evade tokens and a focus token.

I don't need the initiative bid really but I don't really have a way to fill in the last three points. Did you have a better idea?

Isn't R5-P9 better than R2-D2 on Poe?

Isn't R5-P9 better than R2-D2 on Poe?

I would imagine he doesn't have it as it too is an expensive buy - either online or in terms of buying the transport.

it's also not better if you're stressed or blocked

Han Solo (60)
YT-1300 (46), Push the Limit (3), Kanan Jarrus (3), Kyle Katarn (3), Millennium Falcon (1), Engine Upgrade (4)

This looks to be an interesting soon-to-be-released budget Fat Han(will require Ghost expansion).

I am about to try Han Solo (59)
YT-1300 (46), Push the Limit (3), Jan Ors (2), Kyle Katarn (3), Millennium Falcon (1), Engine Upgrade (4)

The next time I play. I am thinking I can both take an evade action each turn and when my stress clears I can take a second evade token. Probably going to try this on tuesday unless my friend decides he wants to play rebels

R2-D2 is the better astromech on Poe IMO. Yes having the focus triggers his pilot ability but you want to spend the focus on defense whenever necessary to mitigate damage. Being able to do that combined with recovering the shield the next turn with a green maneuver makes Poe more difficult to destroy.

I don't quite get that, but I have seen a lot of people play with R2-D2 instead of R5-P9.

That makes me easier to predict on the next movement, and if I keep the focus I get the soft focus on defense for every attack. Why would I spend it on any attack except for the last one? And on the last one, if I need it, it means I rolled three eyeballs, since if I only rolled two it would be equivalent to spend it on the regen as it would be to use it to turn both eyeballs to evades. And actually I would rather spend it on the regen since I would rather have the shield to soak a crit later than to save a hull now. The exception is if I would take a crit.

So the only time you should spend the evade is if they have a hit and a crit and you have two eyeballs, or if you are rolling three or four dice (at range 3 or at range 3+obstruction) and happen to get three or more eyeballs.

Then I still can move how I like the following turn.

So, to me, it seems that R2-D2 is only better if you are rolling 3+ evade dice or the opponent has at least 2 hits (and if you do have R5-P9 you only spend the focus if one is a crit), otherwise you will be left with that focus token at the end of the round.

I have been running a similar list because I won't have 3PO until a do decently in a store championship.

If you run this list in a tournament though, you might get hurt with MOV because if they do half damage to Han they gat half pts.

I don't know that I would change anything, it has worked decently well for me (it also works well with Chewie, but you don't hit quite as hard).

Now the question I am curious about is once I get 3PO, is it best to take out Jan and Recon to replace with Gunner and 3PO, or, to make sure I get hit even less, keep Jan and put in 3PO. Take focus and get an evade. PTL to evade, and then use 3PO in combat, so you get 3 evades. You won't hit as hard without the focus, but you will last a while longer. Also, you can take the focus if you don't expect to get hit that round and use that round to deal some damage.

I used a build of Han with Luke and Chewie as the crew. The basic weakness of this loadout(I usually call them the "token stacker" builds) is that they are action-dependent and leave you to do green maneuvers, which can make Han a lot less elusive. The standard fat Han can pretty much get away with doing nothing but boosting and still getting a very good attack every time. You have to compete against that.

That being said, when your tank stuff does work, it's actually a lot more protective than 3p0 alone. The problem is going to be your attacks.

How do you guys ever plan on running this competetively when Stresshogs are everwyhere? Poor Han is going to get stressed into oblivion on his 4 green maneuvers.
