New Product news?

By Shecian, in X-Wing

So ive been wondering why there has been a lack of news over new products from ffg, especially in the star wars product line. Except for imperial veterans in xwing, news on new products has been slim to none. No armada stuff for months, imperial assault only has 2 figure packs due out with nothing behind that, and xwing is just wave 8 and imp veterans. My original thought was episode 7 tie ins, but as we are almost a month past that there must be some other catalyst driving it.

It could be they want less time from announcement to street date, or to let current products feel fresh by not giving new product news, while that could be the case, im wondering if there is a bigger more business oriented reason. As many of you know ffg becomes asmodee north america on 4-1 and starting that date they have a new set of rules about who can distribute, and who can sell, and via what medium.

The radio silence, while explainable with different theories, im wondering if they are waiting for 4-1. Its possible if they announce it now current distributors might have contractual rights to order, throwing a wrench into thier more tightly controlled business model. I hope im wrong as a near 3 month new product line freeze could suck, its a reasonable theory that no one has presented.

yesterday the mist hunter was revealed...

For X-Wing there's the Imp Vets, and Wave 8 that yes yet to come out. Way too soon to say anything about wave 9.

No armada stuff for months

I think that Armada may take longer to make then X-Wing does. So they're not going to announce wave 3 until they get closer to having it ready for release.

My original thought was episode 7 tie ins

There's pretty much one other ship from TFA that they can really put into the game, the TIE/sf

Also there's a new Star Wars board game, and new packs for the Star Wars LCG.

Considering the recent flood of new products I'm rather happy with having some time to dry out and rebuild.

I have seen little to no difference from how FFG is currently previewing products to how they have in the past. I'm a little lost on what you are referring to as a lack of news.

And if any product is lacking in news, it is definitely not Star Wars. Half of the front page articles are Star Wars related currently.

Ok let me clarify. Im not saying there are no articles, im saying new product release news, aka hey new thing we have never mentioned before. New product announcement. The mist hunter was not first announced yesterday, it was announced July 31. Im not complaining about speed to street date or anything. All i am saying is everyone keeps theorizing that ffg is choosing to slow their release schedule or try and time announcements closer to release dates, all im doing is suggesting a different theory that fits in a business model context. That they may choose to wait to announce any new (again new not previews or spoilers) product announcements until the Asmodee NA thing goes into effect 4-1. I agree xwing still has product line up waiting to hit the street, but Armada and Imp Assault has little to no product in the pipeline that we know of

I am curious when Scum Epic will hit the news wire. Has to be coming.

Don't play Armada but is there any reason to expect tFA stuff to show up there at all?

Can't see Episode VII really fitting in to Imperial Assault either.

Here! Have some facts about the release schedule of X-Wing.

X-Wing Release dates:
Wave 1 was released at GenCon in 2012, that was August 16th
Wave 2 was released on February 28th (look at that it was over 6 months) while their Kessel Run event (same thing as our Sullust event) occurred in December. Oh to help you more, They previewed Wave 2 in September 2012.
Wave 3 was released on September 13th, WOW what a long wait there! You know. . . Wave 3 was not even announced until May 4th so that was 2 months from the time of Wave 2's release
Wave 4 was not even announced until February 7th! Talk about a wait and a half

Armada seems to be following the same pace.

I dont expext tfa stuff in armada of ia right now, hence having seen the movie and coming to that deterination i started speculating on a new theory consistant with a business model change.

Wave 1 (Announced April 17, 2012 / Released September 14, 2012)

Wave 2 (Announced September 14, 2012 / Released February 28, 2013)

Previous Release to Announcement: 0 days.

Wave 3 (Announced May 4, 2013 / Released September 12, 2013)

Previous Release to Announcement: ~ 60 days

Wave 4 (Announced February 7, 2014 / Released June 26, 2014)

Previous Release to Announcement: ~ 150 days

Wave 5 (Announced June 13, 2014 / Released November 26, 2014)

Previous Release to Announcement: ~ -15 days

Wave 6 (Announced August 15, 2014 / Released February 26, 2015)

Previous Release to Announcement: ~ -100 days

Wave 7 (Announced April 20, 2015 / Released August 25, 2015)

Previous Release to Announcement: ~ 60 days

Wave 8 (Announced July 31, 2015 / Scheduled for Q4 2015)

Previous Release to Announcement: ~ 30 days

Remove the exceptions on each side Wave 4 and Wave 6 and they generally wait a month or two after a release before announcing the next wave.

Any moment now... we will get next wave announcement.

Just keep clicking refresh.

Laz uve posted the same thing in every discussion on the. While i get it its kinda out dated. Thier release vs announcement schedule the last couple years has tended to overlap more. Armada they announced wave 2 before 1 hit the street, ia hoth was announced before twin suns, xwing wave 8 was announced before wave 7 hit. In all 3 product lines thier pattern has been to announce something new before the next product hits. Armada nothing, ia 2 figure packs due to hit next few weeks and nothing about what after. Xwing wave 8 was announced 6.5 mths ago and ya we have imp vets due out, but thats a mini expansion like the ia figure packs. Im just saying there is another explanation than ur they ate just reverting to thier 2012-2013 strategy.

We'll get a Wave 9 announcement in the weeks following Wave 8's release. We'll get another boxed expansion announcement after Imperial Veterans is on the shelf. That could be a Scum Huge, or a Rebel or Scum equivalent to Aces (I'd expect the latter). A Scum huge may be the only thing that is announced outside of that sequence. And there was a new major release announced this week in a new Deluxe set for the LCG.

We're not starving for news atm.

Actually pretty OK with no new news. The fire hoses was on full blast before Christmas.

Given the beating my bank account has taken a beating over the past few weeks, and as someone who gets everything for Imperial Assault, Armada, and X-wing, I don't mind a little break. We don't need a breakneck pace of rapid release announcement. I'd be quite happy for X-Wing Wave 8 to get here, be on the tables and THEN wait at least another 3 or 4 weeks at a minimum before they throw something else for us to drool and debate over. I'm sure the recent crush of releases was simply from good marketing and wanting product to land close to TFA release, along with it being so close to Christmas.

Right now, I haven't had time to even get all my IA stuff open and on the table yet, and I haven't had time to play nearly as much Armada or T-70 / TIE/fo battles in X-Wing as I want.

Also, can we please stop making Asmodee and FFG sound like some kind of Evil EmpireTM. Honestly, it's like I want to start handing out tin-foil hats with all the conspiracy theories and ranting going on around here lately.

So far this year (less than two weeks), we've had announcements for a new big box expansion for the Star Wars LCG and a new source book for the Star Wars Force and Destiny RPG. Is one new Star Wars product a week not enough for you to feel like things are okay?

For most people, if they don't play it they don't know about it...

Also, I really think the next major X-Wing announcement (probably Wave 9) will come at GAMA in mid-March. They usually like to announce the really big products at conventions and trade shows, and GAMA is the obvious choice in spring time. FFG has made major Star Wars announcements there in each of the last two years.

I was about to say exactly this lol. Rebel Aces was announced there in 2014. Seems like it will give us some time to play with Wave 8, might be getting close to Imperial Veterans, and gives the designers some time to work on what's next before they show it off.

I'm starving for news. Less so, with regards to x-wing, since we at least have wave 9 PLUS Imp Veterans still on the way.... so there appears to be some staggering of layers there.

But IA is behind in terms of news, and Armada feels WAY behind. I wouldn't be surprised is April 1st is the day the announce stuff... well lets just say April 2nd for the sake of April Fools Day being a traditional day of Joke Announcements.

Maybe that's it? Maybe they are planning a HUGE prank on April 1st? Gungans and Ewoks for Imperial Assault, Escape Pods for X-Wing, and a 12-foot long Executor for Armada!

Wave 6(Scum and Villainy) was announced at GenCon 2014, similar to wave 8 this past year, and didn't come out until around this time in 2015 which is around when we'll be seeing Wave 8 this year. They didn't announce Wave 7 until a couple of months the release of Wave 6. With X-wing at least there's not really a lack of news compared to previous years, and I don't follow Imperial Assault. Armada though is a different story; Wave 2 was announced before Wave 1 made it to stores and took nearly 6 months to actually hit shelves and there's been nothing announced for it since.

But IA is behind in terms of news

Return to Hoth was official released on Dec 23rd. There's been 2 news stories for it since then, the Bantha Rider and the Alliance Smuggler pack, both of which are on the boat.

and Armada feels WAY behind.

As I said above I think Armada takes longer for them to make then X-Wing or IA does. Both in terms of design and production. After the issues they had with announcing Wave 2 on April 6th but not having it released until Nov 26th... Over 7 months latter. I think they're going to wait to say anything about Wave 3 until they are 3-4 months out.

I am a firm believer in Historical Analysis and with how Armada is currently mirroring X-Wing in their releases, we likely wont see anything for armada for a few more months.

I'm apparently guilty of confirmation bias or something similar... I'd glady of bet a small ship expansion that most X-Wing waves are announced either prior to or within a week or so of the previous wave being released.

But looking at the actual dates I see I'm wrong. So yeah I guess Armada is on par for how they do things.
