Youngster TIE/FO interaction - official response

By RowUrBoatGently, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello Patrik,

In response to your rules question:

Rules Question:

Hi! We have a big X-Wing tournament coming up this Saturday and I was wondering if there were any clarifications on the "Youngster" TIE/FO interaction.

TIE/fo fighters and TIE fighters can both be affected by “Youngster’s" ability.
Thanks for playing,
Frank Brooks

Nice to know. But in the FA Coreset, it states it in the reference guide under explaining new factions. So it's good he clarifed, but all of us pretty much knew that.

It's not really anything to do with factions; it's whether the ship-name rules under equipping upgrade cards also apply to applying effects of upgrade cards (or, in this case, pilot traits).

Apparently they do.

On another subject, this rulling makes it look like, to me, that the TIE/fo can be docked to the Gozanti.

I'd guess so too. Question is, can you mix TIEs and F/Os? ^_^

I would say not. While they both include "TIE Fighter" in their name, they are still different ship types.

Clarification = MUCH YAY!

Now if we can just get people to stop trying to use non-action header Elite Pilot Talent cards we'll be all set! :D

Yes you can. In the new rulebook, it says that Empire + First Order can be mixed, as can Rebel and Resistance.

What does that have to do with ship types? The regular TIE Fighter and the TIE/FO Fighter are different ship types, even though they both share the TIE and Fighter traits. Docking clamps says that all docked ships must be the same type of ship. So even though the 2 have identifying traits in common, they ARE different types and therefore should not be mixed when docked to the gozanti.

If you want to go by the letter of the law.

I missed that we were talking about the Gozanti.

Yes, clearly not on that ship.
